Pre-race routine:

Drove down the night before to avoid the 3 am wake-up. Had full intentions of camping in the campground however the thunder storms I drove through on the way down convinced me to check in to the Days Inn when I arrived.
Woke at 4:30, packed and ate a waffle at the Huddle House in Jackson before driving to the park.
Event warmup:

Arrived early so I had plenty of time to set up transition, and get marked. The transition area was a nightmare. It was on a steep hill and the bike racks were entirley too close together. Rode part of the bike course, then ran part of the run course.
Run
  • 21m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the best run split I've ever had. Unfortunately for me apparently my chip was defective so my splits were all jacked up. I timed my first run at 20:30. The guy on the computer acknowledged that my splits were jacked and but stated he had my finish placement correct, but my times were off but they would figure it out! I'm not even sure my finish times are correct. I did time the race myself but all I tracked was my first run and my finish time which there is over a minute difference. I guess the times they posted were their best guess since as of the awards ceremony they still didn't have my times posted. Bummer.
What would you do differently?:

I was worried about dehydration so I had been drinking water all morning. I actually pee'd in my shorts while running at mile 2. A first. Gross I know, but what could I do, I had to go.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Still a strong point.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 40m 8s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 19.14 mile/hr
Comments:

I need some bike work, a new bike or something. I'm just not getting it done on the bike this year.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Great transition considering how packed the transition area was.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Run
  • 23m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Even though this wasn't a great run for me I wasn't passed by anyone and I did make up time that I lost on the bike. I came out of transition hauling ass but my heart rate skyrocked about halfway through so I knew I better slow down. Once again I know this time is not exactly right.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, walked around chatting with other athletes and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training? Need to train harder on the bike.

Event comments:

Overall it was a good race. I don't want to whine but I'm a little bitter about the whole timing thing. This is the first time it's happened too me and Tri the Parks usually does a great job with this series so I'm not going to bitch to them about it.
I've never personally tracked my splits during a race but I think I'll start.
There is one more DU in the series and unless I something drastic happens I should have wrapped up 2nd overall Masters for the series again this year. Just can't seem to catch Brad!

Sweet race!!!  Damn ur fast!! And don't beat yourself up about the bike split. It's still fast!!!  And OMG you pissed yourself! Hahahaha! Well, I always say unless I am winning the race or in contention of placing, there is no need to pee on myself....but for you you ARE in contention, so pee away, I say! Haha!!  Again, great job! When I grow up I want to be a stud like you!!

You're a better person than I for running that course twice.  Once was too many for me.  Nice work overall.  And way to earn an overall podium for the series.

You need to man up and swim dude!! (kidding)

Great job except for the peeing on yourself thing....that's just gross. Did you see your "brother" out there this weekend?

Awesome job out there, David! Having done one (and probably only!) duathlon, I have the upmost respect for duathletes, those are hard! Way to rock the TTP series again this year!
