Pre-race routine:

Got up at the crack of arse! Christian Bale kept me up till 1am! Naughty bugger that he is! Had some toast, tea and drove 4.1 miles to the park, got the best spot there, right at the beach :) YAY!
Event warmup:

Walked the 1 mile to the swim start area! I managed to latch onto the Whidbey Island masters swim team. They adopted me for the day. They were so nice!

I stretched a lot before getting suited up

Comments:

BRILLIANT! BRILLIANT!! I love to swim and this felt SO nice knowing that was going to be NO biking and NO running, not that I don't enjoy either but for me just to able to swim in open water with a bunch of cool people is just awesome!

It was a bit slow going at 1st, I think it took me a full 3 minutes before I was able to fully get some momentum going. There are some REALLY, REALLY fast swimmers out there. The 3.2 mile swim was done in 1:03!!!! Holy CRAP!

For most of the swim I had NO one in front, behind or either side of me, I passed a poop load of people but the 3.2 milers all passed me. So fast! The last 1/2 mile or so started to get choppy and I could feel myself swaying to the right from the waves. There were times when we were close to the shore and I could see the milfoil a good 10 feet below me, it was good to see it whizzing past. I concentrated on my breathing, made good on the sighting, but mostly kept my head down and swam. I stopped once to empty water from my right goggle lens. They didn't fog once and were very comfy. And for $33, I got a nice t shirt, cap and food! I want to do this every weekend!
What would you do differently?:

Speed up a little. This is by far the farthest I've swam in open water without stopping.

Not predict my time as Oh yeah....30 minutes..because you just look like a total numpty.. LOL
Post race
Warm down:

Coffee, scones, chatter and a seat!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not a thing....or maybe the fact I didn't have my *I am from Scotland* T-Shirt on! You know how many times I had to answer that?

Event comments:

This has been going on for 10 years and I can totally understand why people keep coming back, I mean who doesn't want a giant fat assed salmon as a prize! They have loads of food, for the swimmers and friends and family. They are super nice, super helpful and super funny! I will be making this a regular event!

That was a very good "Human emotion" scene...  It was so action packed too and I kept thinking PG13?????  Heath Ledger coming out of the hospital was also a good scene! I could not stop laughing at that!

Thank you everyone!

It was a blast and it's a pretty small venue. Next year I'm doing 3.2 for sure!! If the cap is green however I will be bummed. The 3.2ers had a most awesome orange cap.

awesome job and great race report.  Wish I was out there with you, though I would have been one of the folks you passed.  Might have to do the longer one next year - right?!?

Okay this is DEFINITELY on my list of races to do next year! You make it sound AWESOME!! Way to GO on what is a pretty tough swim!

Have you seen this: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/Aquatics/openwaterswim.htm

Iwant to do it, but I have my first half marathon training group that day (leading it). DANG!

Thank you for being out there today at the Seafair. Roy did his first relay and did the bike course. He was the guy on the comfort bike. LOL! He did pretty damn well for being on that heavy thing! We SO appreciate volunteers!

Lisa and I are volunteering for Danskin on the run portion. Care to join us??

Is that the park to park swim Tory? The link didn't work.  If so I'm signed up for that   I was on the bike course today. 53rd and Lake Washington. Right before the last turn into the home straight for the park!

I will actually be doing Danskin so I'll keep an eye out for you two! I'm doing family and friends and will be one of the later ones probably!
