Pre-race routine:

Just tried not to think about how cold the water was gonna be!
Event warmup:

I trudged my way from finish to start area in the water to get my body used to the coldness......never warmed up tho.
Swim
  • 22m 12s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

So, everyone knows I suck at swimming so just completing this was a good thing. It was super cold, took my breath away, tried NOT to panic (which was hard) and tried to control the rythum of my breathing (which I never did). So....I basically gasped my way to the finish with various side strokes, back strokes and some doggy-paddling....
What would you do differently?:

I think I should invest in a swim coach or even more lake swimming should help!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I was soo happy to get out of the water and jogged to T1 (thanks Dave for jogging with me!) OH, I almost forgot when I was getting on my bike, my tire basically was off....thanks again Dave for putting it back on! (yeah, if he and the T1 volunteers didn't notice it, I would've busted my azz going up hill)
What would you do differently?:

I need to be more organized with my crapola fo sho....it had been raining so all my stuff was still in my bag so I had to dig through it to get my shoes on.
Bike
  • 49m
  • 12.43 miles
  • 15.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good on the bike...however, everyone and their momma's passed me (they did, i did the women's only....LOL) Well, I passed one lady and she was "mature" but I don't care, I'm counting her as a pass!
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, how do I get faster on the bike besides keep riding? Uh?....learn more about gears....oh and the anatomy of my bike!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Off the back and determined to pass some peeps on the run.
Run
  • 33m 58s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, I did pass some peeps on the run, but I guess I wasn't that determined because I was thinking that I should pace myself (which caused me to run slower than usual) and by the end I, of course, had all this energy to finish!
What would you do differently?:

I really need to improve my running by increasing my speed and STOP running in my comfort zone!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, strecthed a little, had some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

me

Event comments:

Well, I know I could have done alot better but hey, this was my first official tri of the season...all I can do is improve huh?.....Definitely have alot to learn and I'm soaking in as much as I can! Thanks to everyone who helped thus far and to those I'll prolly annoy asking more questions in the future!
HA....love the donks!

Good job, Triathlete. You're hooked now, aren't you?

You picked on heck of a tough swim venue as your first one, dang that water was cold, but you perservered.

Way to tough it out and conquer your first tri of the season despite the challenging conditions. Sounds like you learned a lot to continue improving, too!

Nice work!  Race experience like this will help you set the right pace in future races.  Remember the feeling you had on the run and use it to figure out how hard to go next time.

Hey, I think you did great!  And ANYONE you pass (even if a geriatric 90+ year old) counts.
