Pre-race routine:

Ate cinnamon waffle with peanut butter and honey and an English muffin on the way to the race start. It was great not having to drive more then 10 minutes for this race!!!
Event warmup:

i was a little flustered because my Garmin battery was dead. I texted Todd and he brought his when he came with the kids at 7. I swam in the pool to get used to the 50 m pool and really liked the big lanes. I swam about 500 m and felt very warmed up and ready to wait for 1/2 hour to start. Said hello to JJ, Craig and Todd and the kids.

Comments:

I am happy with this swim. I caught up to the guy in front of me and drafted off him for about 50 m but realized that this was not going to work so I passed him and moved on. This was the first swim where I felt comfortable and smooth in the water, not breathing too hard! As I was coming down the last 50 m I could hear the kids, Todd and Jen yelling!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Push it more as I had a little more in the tank and more training in the pool
Transition 1
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Had a good transition! Everything went smoothly!

Comments:

Last year when I did this course my average speed was 15.8. I am starting to really love the bike but I get lost in my thoughts quite a bit. One time I decided to have a GU to get me focused again and another time a man passed me and it motivated me to get it going. I liked this course as it did have 2 hills where you get speed going down but do have to go up as well. Wind was much of an issue this year. There are quite a few turns too. Overall I was happy with my bike today! I saw the group 2 times as I looped around and knowing that I was about to see them made me push it!! thanks gang!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Remember that I am racing!
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

I put baby powder in my shoes to help with getting my shoes on and it seems to help a bit but I need to try bodyglide next time. I still had some trouble with my shoes. As I was racking my bike, it fell and I had to re rack it. Grabbed the Garmin and fiddled with it for a bit as I started to run.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down and rack the bike correctly the first time!
Run
  • 20m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

I forgot to start my Garmin right away but I remember looking down and seeing 6:10 and thought....whoaaa! The question is can I keep it - I tried to stay around the 6:40-6:50 pace. Lots of turns and into the neighborhood where I felt like I was all alone. There was lots of people ahead of me so I decided to just make goals and try to catch them one by one. The racers were very friendly and positive at this race!

I knew that I would see the kids close to the finish so I tried just to keep my pace and finish.

Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and hung out with the kiddos and T, JJ, Craig, and the BT crew. The kids were covered with chocolate from the donuts and red mustaches from the gatorade...so funny!

This was my 2nd tri last year and my time was 1:24 so I was happy with the improvement.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More training in the pool.

Event comments:

I liked this race course and it was put on ok. The 50 m pool was the best thing for me! It was so great to swim in.

A 19 min improvement over a year, a 1st overall, and you've only been doing these a little over a year--wow!! Incredibly awesome job and well deserved hardware!

Smoking fast,, thats all I can say,, and when you get an award you need to grab the mike and tell everyone that you have three kids also, so everyone else has no excuse to be so slow,

Good talking with you afterwards

15.8 to 20+ mph in one year is incredible.  I don't want to even mention your run as it makes me depressed that I can't come close to 6:44s!

1st place overall.  It can't get any better than that!

Wow, great job! You did awesome.  I have  to agree w/ you on the run course because I thought there were too many turns.  After the 1st mile I think I focused more on the course and not getting lost then I did on trying to stay on pace.

Awesome race Jenny. Winning overall is a great accomplishment and one almost no one can do no matter how much they train. You're a natural!
