How sad. Thanks for the reminder to be extra careful about what we let our little ones get into.

That's so sad.  We used to feed my springer grapes once in a while (before we knew the dangers).  We loved how she would spit them out across the floor, chase them and them spit them out again.

Time to go hug my fur children....

Seriously...I live in FEAR of something like this happening to my dog.  Nobody's fault really...accidents happen...but it would devastate me!

It's just too bad that dogs want to eat anything and don't understand what's bad for them    I'm always so worried that my dogs will get into something and try to keep everything in a safe place.

Sorry to hear about the dog- but thanks for the announcement.  I was aware of grapes/raisins being dangerous for animals but I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who don't know.

Chocolate is really bad for dogs too! Especially the dark variety.

I've read that the toxins from grapes build up over time in the dog's kidneys. Before I knew about this I used to give mine an occasional Trader Joe's oatmeal raisin cookie as a treat. You know, the little yummy whole grain ones that come in the big tub. He absolutely loved them, more than his Milk Bones.

Wow I had never heard that doggies had such an issue with raisins/grapes? Chocolate I understand but that is a new one to me. Thanks for the post.

Sad story,  thanks for the info.   What about wine?  I've let the dog lick my finger after I dipped it in the glass?  Won't do that any more.

I once let my older dog Butter eat some Taco Meat and later was sick, had to take him to the hospital, messed up his stomach?   Did recover, but scary to hear a dog heaving up blood in the middle of the nite.

Wow... My cat's avorite toy is the grape vine/stems. We throw them to him when we're done and Kitty spends hours chewing and chasing after them...

I just called my daughter to make sure she knows, NO MORE...

Sad story, thanks for the info. What about wine? I've let the dog lick my finger after I dipped it in the glass? Won't do that any more.

alcohol isn't good for them either - but wine won't cause the toxicity that we see with g/r. It doesn't take as much alcohol to make them drunk or poisoned as it does a person. I had a client this week who poured himself a scotch on the rocks, went to get the newspaper from the table, and came back to find his Bischon up on the coffee table lapping away at his drink. He said she was drunk as a skunk then slept it off and was fine. He figures the dog only had a couple of laps as the glass wasn't much emptied.

and grape seed extract is fine too, doesn't cause the same problems

When I was little we had a crazy Beagle. My dad always took her to the soccer field with him (officially he was out walking the dog...) and just let her run loose. She always found the leaky keg hoses behind the beer tents, then just ran right onto the field and go after the ball. The referees knew her so well that they wouldn't even stop the games anymore, just yell for my dad to get the dog off the field. (It was in a small town, not at major pro games.) She lived a long, happy live, I must say, never showed any effects from all the boozing.
