What you are not training for it already? Maybe not a structed plan but the strong you can be now the better off you will be in spring.

I had the exact same feeling in 07 when I signed up for 08. The year flew by and I did not have a structured training plan in place. I have 4 very active kids (15, 13, 10 and 3 1/2). I did a lot of early am workouts and worked the other ones in when I could. I did end up missing a few workouts along the way when life interuppted, but don't worry about those. When race day came I was concerned that I was undertrained, but the day could not have gone any better. I tried really hard to concentrate on only the things I had control over and that's an important thing to remember, especially on race day. Remember it's supposed to be fun, make sure you make it fun!

My hands were shaking when I registered for one online. I sat back...and thought oh crap what have I done now?

The training was fantastic, yes, life got in the way somedays and so did a very crappy season weather-wise. Feared I was undertrained, but I could not have had a better day. The kink in my neck this week is more painful than the IM I just did.

But yeah, keep the next few months fun & without too much structure coz by spring you will have to crack down & the mental pressure is just as hard as training some days. The 'must do must do' takes a wee bit of a toll somedays, kids, job, life, house chores, etc, even without the pressure of the training. But while you're waiting....train like you mean it. Get a solid base. No fluffing around now!!!

Have fun! That quote....objects on the calendar are closer than they appear...couldn't be more true!!!

So am I the only one one here who has a structured training plan for im moo already?  I've been on a train to train base build program since three weeks before I went down to volunteer.  ( I am going from sprint to iron in one year though.) I'm pretty sure I get a day off for Christmas!  Is anyone else on a structured plan for the whole year?

It's gonna be a long year!

Yes it will be a long year.  Maybe too long.  Make sure you don't get yourself burned out.

I'm on a 20 week plan and will run it twice, per my friend/coach.  I'm on week 2, but actually accomplished 1 week before the start of the plan.  I need to discuss the detail with him more since it is a little generic right now.

Well, since I dont' know the first thing about training for an ironman, I hired a coach and this is what is on my plan.  She's supposed to be the best coach around,  but you're not the first to questions me training all year long.  I think I'll keep on the plan but be careful to watch for signs of burn-out or over training.

hmmm.

My coach warned me not to be structured now...he said I'd burn out, just to do what I want, work on building my swim if I want to do that.  That having been said tho, I've done a HIM the last four summers running and marathon every year for the past three.  I have a solid base, and he knows that.

I guess it depends a lot on how good your base is when you start, and how structured your training plan is.  I know my coach is SUPER structured...x minutes at y heartrate, that sort of thing. He insinuated that the structure of it burns people out mentally.
