It was nice to meet you.  I'm sorry your race did not go well!  I hope you continue with triathlon.

phillybarb - 2009-07-12 1:48 PM Glad I got a chance to meet everyone this morning!  It's really nice to put faces to names.

My race did not go well.  For the first run, I did a run/walk, as I was afraid of spending too much energy on those two miles.  I started the bike, but did not finish the bike.  I have a high level of anxiety on the bike since crashing during a race (Philly Insurance TRi, Olympic distance) last summer.  I rode past the side street that goes to the concrete wall that I collided with and all I could imagine was the crash.  I couldn't get my mind back to today's race.  I was upset with myself at first for DNF'ing on probably the easiest bike course ever; however, I realized how much I like to swim and run and how much I don't like biking.  I talked to my Mom on the phone when I got home and I think I am going to focus on single sport running races and open water swimming events.  Maybe in a couple of years, the freshness of the crash will have worn off and I will get back on my bike again, but right now I am going to focus on the swim and run that I truly enjoy doing.

Nice to meet you Barb. I hope you'll be able to get your biking back some day.

I was pretty bummed when I heared they canceled the swim. I couldn't wrap my head around doing a duathlon, so before the race started I decided all I cared about was giving the bike my all. I took the 1st run pretty easy and then threw everything I had at the bike, passing everything in site! As a result, the 2nd run seriously sucked. The bike was way fun, the rest not so much. I don't see myself doing this particular race again.

I have to say that I was bummed the swim was axed but I was thrilled to do a DU.  It was my first and I actually really liked it!  Sometimes its fun to switch it up a bit.  My time would have been better with a swim instead of the run but hey, I can't get upset over 1:39:50!

I was so ready for the swim!  What a disappointment.  But the Run, Bike, Run was ok with me.  I was right behind you in 1:41:55.  I also think I would have been a little faster with the swim.  All in all, it was a great experience.  I'm hoping to do it next year.

It was great meeting everyone.  I agree, it's nice to put a face with a screen name.

Barb, don't be discouraged.  We all have anxieties.  Mine also involve biking.  I stay on trails and venture on the streets only during the early morning hours when there is little traffic.  Keep working on your running and swimming, and we hope to see you in next year's race.

It's was great meeting everyone (Barb, thanks for taking me around, you really enhanced my first experience).  I was defintely bummed about the swim being cancelled.  I think I went out too fast on the first run, because I had little left for the last run, but it was a great experience.  I'm also going to have to upgrade from the mountain bike, because I plan on doing some more!

I'm glad I helped!  I did my first tri on a comfort bike and upgraded shortly after that to a road bike, as I had so much fun at that race.
