You know, I always wondered what happens to the money they make off this. You can't tell me that at #30 each applicant they don't make enough to pay the contracted companies to collect the money and do the lottery.

Its a huge cash cow. Figure even at 10,000 people, that is $300,000 for what? The chance to participate. Plus then Active.com pocketing their own fees.

I heard they just cancelled the lottery this year. Don't bother going to that website because I am pretty sure they forgot to take it down.

This should make you forget about the silly lottery....

Plus $50 extra for the passport club.  So to maximize your chances you need $85!!!  Nuts...

For your $85 you also get a copy of the Kona DVD for that year.  That's what they've done the last 2 years.  So far, I have '06 and '07.  Nice to have for those long winter trainer rides.

$85 is not that bad. If you do happen to get in, it will cost WAY more to race (airfare, hotel, meals, bike shipping etc.). Anyone that is seriously considering Kona won't be put off by 85 bucks.

Sounds low to me but even $85 will be worth it to those who want the big dance without qualifying.

If the odds of winning were good I may consider it... I just can't justify throwing away $35 for a CHANCE to go to Kona. I know this is probably the only way I'll get there, but it's still a little hard to swallow.
