I am in my first 6 months of training and have complete two sprint tri's.  My legs feel like lead weights for two or three days after the race and have general fatigue over that same time period.  I don't really have a good cool down routine and I am not sure what I should do for workouts in the week following a race.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds like you gave our own answer. Everyone is different, but if it takes you 2-3 days to recover from a sprint there ya have it. You could stretch, do a little recovery jog that day or do a walk or recovery jog/bike/swim within that 2-3 day period, but really up to you. Basically you can fully rest or do minimal activity just to get things going, but not to stress your body.

I have tried it both ways. Just take 2 days off after an Oly or jog 2-3 miles a day and ride the bike 10 miles slow pace other days following a HIM. I don't think it mattered much. I felt like I hadn't waisted as much time following the HIM as I still got in 5 hours of workout that first week, but then after the OLY I drove 1500 miles the next 2 days and didn't really have a choice.

Stretch, eat, sleep, and some aspirin.  That's what I do.

I'm sure an ece bath could help, but I have never done one.  Maybe after ny next race.

Thanks for the ideas.  I guess I am just concerned that if it takes me a couple days to recover from a sprint how many days will I be down as I move up to longer races as I hope to do at least one OLY next year and hopefully  a HIM somewhere down the road.

Do you get some good food into your gut soon after crossing the finish line?

I like to eat after walking around a bit and cooling down, so I normally have food in the cooler or eat the post race food if it looks edible.  Think good carbs and protien, I normally have a recovery drink like Endurox all ready mixed and ready to drink too.

Everyone is different but I seem to notice when I eat good after a hard workout and don't eat soon enough or open a beer instead.

Ice baths.

Just rest, lots of fluids, and healthy eating. Don't do anything you don't feel your body is ready for.

A burrito and beer post race seems to be popular around here!

Try Yoga? Multiple beers, and Yoga for me. Followed by some Bourbon.

After a big race where I gave a big effort, for me, the order of events is:  Eat, drink, ice, sleep.  Repeat.
