I just took a look and it didn't say it was full.  I even clicked-through to where I have to put my name.  Are you sure it's full?

Really would like to do this or MIT.  I know St. A's is a better event, but I have time constraints.

They have not changed the scrolling thing on the St. Anthony's site...it still says when registration opens.  I think it usually says once it's full but I could be wrong.

If you want to do it, take a shot.  They won't let you register if it's full.  There's a chance they are still sorting through duplicate registrations from the registration debacle and maybe some spots opened up????

When I looked it said full next to the individual age group (where the prices are listed).  As stated, they may have sifted through the double entries and opened up more slots.  Since many people thought it was full, most probablyt are not looking.  With the problems Active was having, I imagine alot of people signed up twice.  I totally thought I did as it "TIMED OUT" and gave me an error message when the CC was processing.  I hit the back button and hit enter again, and it went through.  Then I got 2 confirmation emails with the same confirmation number...  But I was only charged once.  Who knows, I say go for it, if you get in, cool, if not, see you at MIT, I am doing both.

I just went back out, Individual and Relay are showing FULL.  Pro, Charity and Meek and Mighy are available, so it lets you get pretty far before you dead end.

No, thanks for the info.  I just pinged my charity people for MC Marathon.  Don't think I can tap them again so quickly.  May have to switch to MIT.  Thanks again.  Good luck out there!

If anyone needs a hotel room, let me know. I booked a room at the Hampton Inn before Jen and I decided to share a room....I am still holding it, as I know a lot of places have booked up. So if you need a room, PM me and we'll figure out how to put it in your name.

It is a crowded race but at the same time it's so full of energy.  I really like the fact that there are so many people, however I never felt "crowded" on the course.

The transitiom area however is a different story.  It is a bit tight.

Did anyone else get the email from Philip LaHaye? I was expecting some sort of apology about the registration process, or an explanation!? But nothing.....

Needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed.

I had several emails back and forth but only because I initiated them.  He's as frustrated as we were.  However and apology would have been nice.

question about the race:
is transition grass or paved?
if grass, can anyone comment in running through transition in bike shoes (speedplays).
has not been a problem in paved transitions, but have heard that speedplay cleats can be clogged by grass or mud.

Grass. look at my album for an aerial shot of the transition. I've heard of cleats getting clogged with mud, but never seen it happen.

Grass transition, there are lots of activities throughout the year in this area, concerts, festivials etc. pretty compacted I would think. If dry I can't imagine it being a problem, but I guess anything can happen. The email was not meant to be an apology, just informing those who entered of whats ahead. He did make sure to mention if there were any entry problems to let him know. So he is certainly aware of the problem.

A piece of advice for St. A's newbies:

Bring a throw away pair of shoes (if you don't have an SO to hold them for you).

The walk from Transition to the Start is rather long to do barefoot.

Though one year I saw the pro men RUNNING it barefoot.  Studs.

Ditto on clipping the shoes to the bike.  Practice it first obviously, but this is a good race to have it down.  The transition is grass/dirt and has not been muddy the last two years.  That said, if it rains, yikes.  Plus, the first and last 1/2 - 3/4 mile of the bike, aka, the part where you clip in and clip out is brick and a little slick when trying to navigate in bike shoes with cleats.  Much safer to run it in bare feet and hop on a moving bike.  It also helps run past some of the inevitable congestion of people stopping to get on their bikes the second they get 1 foot past the mount line.

Also a great idea on disposable flops.  Go to CVS and buy the cheapest $2 pair you can find.  Almost a mile walk from the transition to the swim start.  Oh yeah, leave yourself enough time, you do not want to run it like I did last year because I screwed around too long in transition.

2 years in a row now running with speedplays through transition and both times I had to do a little tap dance after the mount line before I got on my bike.  Not a big deal for me but if you're concerned about it I would say clip your shoes to your bike if you can do the flying mount move.

This probably goes against conventional thinking but I wear mountain bike shoes (for the bike only) and actually run normally through transition areas when everyone else is doing the penguin dance. StA's went from wet grass/mud to slick concrete with a 90 deg turn at the bike mount area and a 100 yard run with your bike transitioning to the run. I ran normally and easily saved 30 seconds. They weigh a little more and are not as stiff as bike shoes but I figure it all comes out in the wash with the time saved in transition. I averaged 22 on the bike last year. I'm not competing for a top finish so who really cares about a few seconds, I'm more interested in not falling or stepping on something.

The only mud I remember was at the swim exit...if you're in the back waves like us chicks the swim exit is a MESS by the time we get there.  Definitely have something around to wash your feet off with.
