Yay Mark! See you there.

Yeah, I thought that was odd that registration was still open. What an effing mess! I'm sure Phillip LaHaye is going to get an earful about this...

Has it been wetsuit legal in the past???

Being an ocean swim, I would consider a swimskin if not.....and want to start looking for deals

No matter what the actual water temp is, they find a way to call it wetsuit legal. They will find the deepest part of the swim course and measure there to make sure its wetsuit legal. Like I said in a previous post, the water can be kind of rough and with the number of people per wave, they want to give you every advantage for safety as possible.

x2 - what he said. Water can vary from flat as a board to choppy like a hurricane (I forget what year that was).

The real rough waves was in 2006. 2007 was calm but had a nasty current.

Last year it was WS legal.  However even if it is NOT you can still wear a WS, you just cannot be in the running for AG prize money or AG podium spots.

Current?  I did not notice the current.  Maybe it deveoped later in the day?  (I was in one of the first waves after the pros, elite and then Challenged Athletes)

I was in the W40-44 wave..had time to go back to the hotel, read the paper and have coffee before my start - the current was there at 8:30 or whenever it was I finally went!  I did not wear a wetsuit, as I am a fairly strong swimmer...not this year!  I want one of those FAST swim times

I didn't wear a wetsuit either. Only because I couldn't afford one. I still cant, but my parents are getting me one for Christmas. Might be picking it up this weekend.

no, its usually not bad. If anything it will be on the border of legal/not legal.  I was fine last year with it on and fine 2yrs ago without it. Due to conditions I would recommend wearing it, or at least having it with you.

someone I know tried to sign up yesterday and it was STILL OPEN...sorry, not trying to salt any wounds Sealed

edit:  actually, I just checked this morning and it *appears* it is STILL open!  hmpf.  go figure.

I wonder if a lot of people decided it just wasn't worth the hassle.  Or did they up the capacity this year or something?

I saw the banner on the St A's website said that capacity was *4,000* individuals plus 125 relay teams.

Yeah, why do I remember something along the lines of 3k in the past?

Count me in.

This will be my 3rd. First in 1990 (then called St Pete Triathlon) and last year. Great race! I went from 2:24 in 1990 to 2:37 in 2008. I'll try to get back to my race time when I was 20. I do miss my old "Dave Scott Ironman Centurion" bike.

I just got a room at La Veranda...it's a B&B you can walk to from the transition area.  Just DO NOT mention you are with BT.  Really, don't.

I've stayed there twice...nice place and very convenient to the site.

yeah, same here.  My wife and I both wore full wetsuites with out any trouble. My only complaint is the fact that they have a beginner group.  I wish they would mix the beginners up in their respective age groups.  When you have a group of beginners all starting together they tend to run into eachother a lot.  I was in a relay and started after the beginner group and had a ton of speed bumps, I finished toward the front of the beginner group which started 5 minutes or so ahead of me.  I felt really bad having ran into so many people but they were all going in different directions and without the seasoned people leading the way I am afraid that it was a bad experience for the beginners.  Therefore, if you are new to St. As but not new to TRIs you may want to talk to the race director and make sure you are not in the beginner group.  As for the other relay teams, we will just have to do what we can.

look forward to seeing you all there.  I hope that Q sets up the dinner again so I can come this time.

Well, I went out and took a look and it is finally full.  Not sure when it filled or why it took at least a few days this year.  Be it the meltdown at Active.com, the ridiculously higher price or the fact that not as many people have several hundred bucks (or thousand if you are traveling) to do a triathlon.  Should be a great race.  Let's all cross our fingers for 2007 conditions!!

Let's also hope they move the younger women up.  Per some earlier posts, it is the 20-40 women that really draw the short straw.  If they were doing order of speed, they would go right after the 20-40 men, but they stick them really far back (not to open that back up).

Let's see how many restaurants Q will have to call this year :-)  Did the one you guys ate at last year go out of business yet, that seemed to have been the trend.

I just took a look and it didn't say it was full.  I even clicked-through to where I have to put my name.  Are you sure it's full?

Really would like to do this or MIT.  I know St. A's is a better event, but I have time constraints.
