Pre-race routine:

I'm not gonna lie. I drank way too much last night. My alarm went off at 6:30 and I couldn't figure out why I was getting up in the dark. Then I realized I had a massive hangover, including a terrible headache. I had coffee, dressed and dashed out the door. I attempted to eat a Breakfast Cookie, one of the test foods I bought at the IMWI expo. It was strangely nasty and tasty at the same time. I ate half of it, it was way too big on a hangover stomach.
Event warmup:

Sitting at Starbucks with jmk-brooklyn for more coffee was the extent. Met up with runnerx at the start as well. Finally got the courage to strip down to minimal layers. Regretted it immediately. Why was I racing again???

Comments:

Slow and slightly miserable says it all. Every person in the NY Metro area hoping to get in a marathon qualifier showed up. It was a good thing I wasn't even attempting to run a decent pace. Chatting with jmk and runnerx made it at least entertaining, but the miles went by sooooooo slowly. Oh, and I had a low tolerance for all the chipper folks dressed in santa and elf costumes. Bah humbug.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink 4 beers and 2 bottles of wine the night before, sleep more than 5 hours :)
Post race
Warm down:

Raced to baggage and put on every piece of clothing I had. Walked to the subway with jmk and prayed for a warm train to arrive. Ate an enormous hangover cure breakfast. Eventually had a nice swim.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hangover! Frigid temps, overall lack of motivation.

Event comments:

The holiday race is always fun, but always crowded. But hands down the best race shirt of the year! This was my final qualifier for '09 NYC Marathon entry. I'm in! It was a good time despite the hangover.
