For those of you who haven't signed up for the sprint yet, but are considering. I was reading metrosports magazine and I saw a discount code for $5 off. Every $ helps. The code is MS09. Enjoy and when you ride past the slow guy in the red Cannondale, don't laugh.

QueenZipp - 2009-02-21 7:31 PM I'm in for the international.  Wetsuit and neoprene cap for this kid. i am a major wimp about being cold!

I'm planning on the sprint.

I like the idea of a neoprene cap, but aren't you supposed to wear the cap they assign you?  Somehow I can't see wearing a cap over a cap....

It's doable. You are supposed to wear the cap they assign you - you just put it over the top of the neoprene.

I've seen people with latex allergies wear their personal caps then have someone pur the latex one over it for the race.  Has to be a trick to get off and not get latex on you though

looks like the water is currently 57.  We may get a couple more degrees, but I doubt it will be above 60.

Whaaa It was 53-57 two years ago for the Kinetic races (when Kinetic was that weekend). I heard it SUCKED. Looks like I'll be picking up a neoprene cap this weekend at the tri shop.

It's 57 now, actually.

Anyone know what 57 feels like? Folks who did Kinetic that one year? I was in the lake last year when it was 65 and it wasn't bad at all (granted, it was like 3 pm, and 85 out). But 57 sounds worse. Much worse.

Ug.  Guess that settles whether I need a neoprene cap.  Better get to the store before wurkit girl gets the last one Smile

This is my first triathlon too, I'm feeling a little nervous, any tips? Does anyone know where I can find results from 2008? I want to get an idea of whether my time goals are realistic.

www.setupevents.com. Find the race and then scroll down and it will have the times from the last couple of years.

The only thing that can prepare you for swimming in cold water is to swim in cold water. The only thing comparable to swimming in cold water is swimming in cold water.

Now, do I personally think it is a big deal? No, but this will be the fifth straight year that I've done a race at Lake Anna in April.
Was it a big deal the first year? Yes. It took me about 20 minutes to get through 750 meters.

The idea isn't to scare you, the idea is to make sure you are prepared (not just in terms of wetsuit, cap, etc, but to also be preparted mentally). It's hard to put your face in cold water when you have the option NOT to. Get in the water before the race starts. Swim in it. Get some water in your suit and allow your body time to bring the temperature up.

Since I'll be down there the day before, perhaps I'll get a chance to don the wetsuit and paddle around a bit to test it out, like we did last year. Then forcing myself in the next day won't be as bad.

I won't have the swim early luxury.  Maybe the cold water will make me swim faster b/c I certainly can't swim slower.

I suggest filling a tub with cold water and getting in with wetsuit submerging the face   make sure it is around 60 and not 40

First make sure you shut the heat off in your house and open all the windows. The chances of it being 72 on race morning are very unlikely.

So if you see a news report about a woman in her mid 30s from Arlington found floating in a bathtub, it wasn't an accident.

But remember dear - that would mean you have to take care of the kids by yourself.  ;-)
