Curious what others do that puts your training above the crazed looks of others?

I was doing a 30 minute run the other day, timing it to finish the run with picking my son up from school.  (we live haf a mile from the school, so sometime when I do my run - we just walk home together).

I got there about 4 minutes early and didn't feel like logging a 26 minute run and standing there.  So for the next 4 minutes, I did laps around the school's pick-up circle.

Worked perfect for me, but when I was done, I realized a large group of people where just standing there staring at me with a WTF! look on their faces.

Taking "relief" on the side of the road.  Apparently some never watch the Tour de France out-takes.

That's funny!  I could totally see myself doing that.....  Although people who work out would know exactly what you're doing.

I remove layers of clothing while running - it's hard to keep going while the pullover is being yanked over your head, but it can be done without breaking stride.

Also - in summer I bring my bike to work and keep it in my van and ride at lunchtime.  I sprint to get to it, and sprint back to the building after I'm done.  It helps both in getting more riding time in and helping with transition training   The people here don't get it though.

I tend to talk to myself when I'm trying to push at the end of a workout. Which works great when I'm outside by myself, but does get me some weird looks at the gym.

Actually going OUTSIDE to run when it's gorgeous out in the middle of winter.  All the folks headed to the treddies give me that "is she crazy" look.... (this is of course when I lived in SD)

Many years ago I once went out running in a pouring rain just because I wanted to.  I actually had people stop and ask if I wanted a ride home.

Swimming in a lake for OWS practice sometimes draws funny stares too.

I swear at myself all the time during runs, which is fine when no one is around. I have gotten some stares doing it when I didn't notice someone nearby.

Does wearing my compression tights on the back deck while on the computer count?

I did that last night for the first time.  Thought about it and then didn't care.  Waved at a neighbor or two.  But they are use to me walking the dog in spandex now.  At first, second and third...they weren't.

Not training per say, but part of the triathlon lifestyle. I shave my legs in the men's open showers at the gym. The shower room is one big room with 20 or so shower heads. I get some really strange looks.

Went for a run yesterday in -37 C weather. Even my wife doesn't understand after all these years.
When my kids were younger and I had to take them to hockey practice, I would use the hour to run up and down the stairs of the arena while the other parents would just sit and watch the kids. Some thought I was nuts. Others would say "I wish I could do that." Of course, they never did try and join me.

Running in the cold, miserable, torrential downpour this past Sun. while the temps were in the 20s (above zero, at least).

When I beeyotched at the college boy-girl "couple" running side-by-side, blocking the indoor track lanes, while I was doing a speed workout and had to pass them amongst some running "traffic".  I wasn't happy that I had to do that, but, it was either that or get run over.  Hey, this could be a poll!

Occassionally when out for a ride in the cold I end up having to break ice/icecicles off of my bike. I sweat a lot when I ride, even when it is cold out side. And it just does not get cold enough for the sweat to freeze before it hits my top bar, but it freezes before it falls off. (this was more fun when rowing in the spring in college, My entire rigger would be a block of ice by the time we were done, and sometimes the only way to melt the ice was to drop the shorts and well...you get the idea.)

get some people to stare when you accidentaly blow a snot rocket on their car too...but that was only that one time...and it's not like the guy didn't cut me off with only an inch to spare...right?

I ride my bike home from work and when I walk out of my fancy office building in spandex and a helmet I always get funny looks.

>>>and of course blowing snot rockets always freaks people out.

I don't shave in the shower, but let's just say being shaved and in the shower occasionally draws a sideways look.

Zilla - 2009-03-12 1:48 PM When I'm riding and I am at a stop light waiting with the cars I tend to take a drink then like to spit  When it's windy my nose runs constantly so I will blow my nose into my fingers and fling it to the side then wipe my fingers on my shorts.  What? All my delicate hankies were dirty that day!  That often gets that look of horrification from people.

oh so sexeh....!!!  Only another triathlete can appreciate that!!!

Probably when I wear my cycing bib fas tri shorts when I do a short brick and get too lazy to change for the 20 min run after the bike.  Or at least that's when I feel most self consious.

Jogging to work with a backpack also got me some interesting looks last week...

Singing along with my ipod.  Sometimes a guy just has to sing when he's running

I run a 1.1 mile loop in our neighborhood.  Sundays are my long run which is around 2 hours for 12'ish miles.  People working in their yards, or sitting on the porch will wave or nod when you go by.  When they go inside and/or leave in their vehicle, and an hour or hour and half later you see them again and make eye contact... they do a double take and sometimes even glance at their watch.

You need a different loop.  1.1 miles?  That could be as close to as boring as a dreadmill.

On days when I ride my bike to work, I refuse to lock my bike up in the public bike rack (I work at a community college in a high-crime neighborhood)...so I bring it in the elevator with me up to the 2nd floor, where my office is located. That generally draws some "looks" from more than a few people.

I have a high cold tolerance, so I can only run in tights when it's in the 20's or under.  I even get funny looks from other runners when it's snowing and I'm running in shorts.

When i do wear tights, I usually don't wear shorts over them (unless I need a pocket for keys).  It looks like I'm running in long underwear.

When running in tights, or tri shorts, or riding, sometimes you have to....adjust.  I've long since stopped caring where I am or who's watching when said adjustments are made.
