Pre-race routine:

woke up around 6:30. made coffee and oatmeal. planned to do some yoga to stretch out, but then ella woke up feeling sick. almost didn't go to the race, but she perked up and off i went.
Event warmup:

bill dropped me off, and i ran (literally) over to pick up my race packet, then ran back to the car (since they were going back home since ella had been feeling sick). after that, my legs were a bit warmed up already, so i did some stretching. went to the bathroom. hiked over to the start line.

Comments:

felt really good. was able to keep a faster than average pace for me...and still have enough left to pick up the pace the last few miles. i was tired this morning...and then a bit stressed since i had a sick child. was very conflicted about running at all this morning, but my husband and i decided i should do it since he was home and ella seemed to be doing better. she's doing just fine now. i missed having them there. i was a worried mom through the whole run, but bill took care of the girls and now everyone is feeling fine.
What would you do differently?:

just fine the way it was! :)
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed half a banana and a mini clif bar and went to look for bill and the girls. i finished about 5 minutes faster than i had expected, so while i waited i stretched and drank some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

i'm a slow runner, so this pace was great for me.

Event comments:

volunteers were very nice. well organized. pretty route. the folks doing the 8 miler all seemed to be marathoners. lots of t-shirts from grandmas marathon, and even a couple from boston. would have really intimidated me a year ago, but felt like i had the right to be there. a good feeling. didn't stick around afterwards at all since ella was sick (she's much better now - maybe too many kalamata olives yesterday. she loves them. better enough for us to consider a camp out tonight!).

no pictures, since my cheerleaders weren't there. no official race results, since they aren't posted online yet. y'all will just have to take my word for it! :)

Performance: Good
hr was a bit high, but i was really happy with my pace. i felt comfortable. there were several hills, which also put my hr up a bit. overall, this is the best pace i've ever had for a longer distance like this. first 5 miles = 9.47 ahr 171 last 3 miles = 9.38 ahr 178 min hr 111, max 193, average 174
Course: along the mississippi river. started at boom island park, and ran along the river to the franklin bridge, turn around then back to the stone arch bridge, across, and down back to boom island. mostly flat, but downhill and up again every time the path went under a bridge. twice the run went past the spot where i broke and dislocated my elbow winter riding back in 98. very pretty route.

Awesome race, Autumn!  That's really a great pace for that long of a race.  You ROCK!!
