Total Time = 4h 49m 56s
Overall Rank = 5/315
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 1/58
Pre-race routine:

Eary wake up, Muffin / Gatorade / Powerbar / Banana
Event warmup:

light run / few laps in the lake
Swim
  • 24m 40s
  • 2078 yards
  • 01m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim, Did not want to push it. Tried to stay long and smooth and conserve energy. Tried to mimic what I wanted to do for Lake Placid, finished the swim with a lot of energy left.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up a little more
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Long run from transition area to bike mount all up hill. Carried my shoes and put them on at the bike mount station. Chain fell off as soon as I jumped on the bike, yeah. Took care of it and took off. Shoes needed to be a little tighter so I took some speed away while I was adjusting.
What would you do differently?:

I would like to have actual tri shoes and not the ones I hve now. Keep shoes on the bike and transition that way.
Bike
  • 2h 54m 11s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.29 mile/hr
Comments:

This course was definitly a tough one. I think I could have rode this course better but I was trying to stay comfortable. Got a little slow on some of the hills, lost consentration and did not follow through exactly as planned.
What would you do differently?:

I would have liked to have crested the hills a little better. Had some trouble getting back up to speed after the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

The bike keeped bouncing around as I ran with it and the shoes were catching on the ground. I almost lost the bike as it bounced from left to right.
What would you do differently?:

I do not know if I had trouble with the bike-run because of the small wheels? (New bike with 700 wheels?)
Run
  • 1h 28m 54s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

It started to get hot out there on the course. Legs felt a little heavy at first. It was a tough run and I started to get a little tired the last two miles. Ran with a fuel belt the first 6 miles and then threw it to my dad at the turn around. It was nice to get rid of the extra weight.
What would you do differently?:

I need new shoes. My feet wre killing me after the 8 mile mark. I had a cut in my left toe that bothered me a lot. How I slpit my toe I do not know.
Post race
Warm down:

swim in the lake and walked around for 1/2 hour

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think it might have been some gear issues. Strength wise I felt fine, I had more feet problems than anything else.

Event comments:

The support and volunteers at this race was incredible. It was the best I have ever encountered. They made the race. I can not express how great the volunteers were.

WOW, excellent race! Congrats on the OA finish. Nice work on a tough course. Interestingly, I also cut one of my toes during the race, but I have no clue how. My guess is a rock in the water?

Great race!  But you really have me depressed at "not pushing" a 24 min swim!

Keep up the bike work until LP.  Otherwise, you look golden!
