He rode the rest of the way injured because he was afraid they wouldn't let him finish. Ran the entire 26.2 miles and went promptly to the medical tent. Diagnosis: likely a broken collar bone. Trip to ER will confirm tomorrow morning. This is unbelievable! Having had a broken shoulder recently I know I couldn't have gotten back on the bike let alone run 26.2. Amazing that he finished and it says so much about the Ironman spirit. |

I got to catch PD Goldberger (Paul), Sgillen (Steve) , Barqhead (Pam) and Doug. Great to see all of those smilin bt faces. Tobin, I saw you at t2 and that was it-looked for you all day, but you were just too fast! Mcfuzz!!! Did you have to show off and finish with broken bones...jeesh. Now must go take care of my multiple IM.

You guys had to put up with some really tough weather out there to finish your journey. It was fun...cold, but fun...watching you guys out there all day! Even got to see a few of you at the Medical tent but just for food and warmth, no dehydration on this day. For those of you wondering about the weather, the swim was pretty choppy, the bike had upwards of 20mph winds at times, and by the time most had gotten onto the run it was pouring a COLD 50 degree rain. Very unusual for this time of year but it happens. Tough guy of the day award goes to McFuzz...amazing! I saw a girl on the run course that had done the same thing and was running with a broken collarbone so both of you should get a free entry I think for being so tough! Congrats to those of you who PR'd, to those of you who finished your first race, and everyone in between. You're all an IRONMAN! It was a pleasure meeting some new BT friends this week and getting to catch up with others. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you out here again next year! |

He rode the rest of the way injured because he was afraid they wouldn't let him finish. Ran the entire 26.2 miles and went promptly to the medical tent. Diagnosis: likely a broken collar bone. Trip to ER will confirm tomorrow morning. I took him to the Urgent Care this morning. Official diagnosis is a broken collar bone that has 2 large fragments that will need to be (most likely) removed when we return home and after the swelling has gone down. The nurses and doctors were SUPER impressed that he continued on for 45 more miles AND ran 26.2 miles after that. He jokingly asked if this finish gives him a Kona spot! He is considering another 140.6 race but not for a couple of years. He doesn't wanna do one again next year and the following year is our youngest boys's senior year of high school. So, I envision him signing up in 2012 for one in 2013 but continue with the Olympics and 70.3s. |

Below is what I posted Monday morning...on the wrong thread The morning after the day before. What a great day only spoilt by the cold rain at the latter stages. Still even that was better than was forcast. It was great to see familiar faces both before and during the event in the guise of BT'ers. For an Englishman along way from home it was great to have friends out there. I think that alone proves what a great resource this site is. Well as for the race, I had a poor 1:31 swim, a solid 6 hr bike and a 3:49 marathon giving a total finish time of 11:29:03 My goals were a sub 4hr marathon and 11:30 total. As you can guess I am pleased with myself, although very very sore. hope everyone else had a good race. I know tobin did as I saw him at the finish having done a PR of 3:07 . Well done mate. Hopefully see some of you at awards dinner. Just hope by then I have got my appetite back! 2 weeks off training now before resuming training for IM UK in 6 weeks. I just hope the people of Bolton embrace the whole event like the community of CDA. they were great and also the hundreds of volunteers including my daughter Charlotte who spent over 6 hrs at run feed station 1. I had to be carted to the med tent with a body temp of 94 degrees and dropping. I stayed about an hour and change, got my temps up and had them bring me back to where they picked me up. I walked the remaining 16 miles so I finished just not officially. Was having a great day until the rain; I'm from Louisiana so I'm a total wuss when it comes to cold weather  |
