Subject: Long-Distance Travel after 1st Metric Century
I am planning to do my first metric century at the end of the month. The next day, I will have a 9 hour flight.

Because it's my first ride with that distance, I expect some soreness and it just makes me cringe to think about being sore and be cramped in a plane for 9 hours.

I originally planned to swim the next day to loosen everything up, but that's not going to happen. After the ride, it takes me at least 1.5 hours to do an ice bath and I don't know, if that is too late that it would have any effect. I was also thinking about getting some compression tights for on the plane. If I wasn't travelling, I wouldn't worry about it at all, but under these circumstances...

Am I overthinking this??

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I think the compression tights wouldn't hurt in this case.  I wore some socks on a long plane ride (not after a grueling event though) and felt 100 times better.  Although I think you'll be okay either way, the compression tights would be nice to have in general.

i think if you have been riding for a while you will be fine.

I had been riding 1.5 years and just last weekend decided to double my distance by doing my first metric century.

I felt fine afterward and great the next day. I was barely sore, it just felt like I did a hard workout.

but again - if you have the socks to wear on the plane why not. couldn't hurt right. But I think you will be fine without too.

Compression tights probably can't hurt, but I would definitely get up and walk the aisle two or three times an hour. Not to scare you, but google DVT and plane rides. It shouldn't be a problem, but walking the aisle a couple times an hour would be high on my personal list.

I did my first metric century distance ride this year the day after I did a half-mary race. I was sore the next day, but functional. You'll be fine. Don't race your metric century - just take it as a nice long training ride. You'll be fine.

I've done two metric centuries and followed each by a 7 hour car ride back home. I was sore but not uncomfortable sitting.
