I just signed up and have never done it before.  Anyone else doing it or has done it in prior years?  Hints?

Thanks, Eric.

For a short race, it can be decptively difficult. The last few years the bike has changed around..longer to shorter, forward and reverse. Riding the course "reverse" of the normal way was far tougher, at least in my opinion.

The run has a decent hill out of transition and past the cemetary, then again through town. Bike is rolling, with a few nice sized Woop-de-woops. (depending on which version of the course they go with...haven't checked) If they've finally finsihed all the resurfacing, and gone back  to the original tough, it hsould be nice.

I missed last year, as I broke my foot a week or so before, but every other year I've done it, the swim is notoriously choppy. One of the choppiest, IMO, out of all the MMS series races. Why, I will never know.

ETA: The bike has been anywhere from 14 or so miles up to 21 or so. I see this year, they're staying around 20. (I prefered it much better at 17. That was a good distance, IMO, for the rest of the race) I may drop dead as I have yet to be on my bike for more thean 20 miles this season (let alone on my TT bike at a race effort), and am doing Grandma's Half marathon the weekend before.

It will be my first outdoor tri of the season.  I just want to finish and not embarrass myself :-)

I do have a new bike that I am excited to race with.  It should save me some bike minutes!

I don't know what it is with that race...it's always tsunami-esque on the lake for some reason.

As I took a slow bike ride with my kids along Lake Minnetonka this morning, I looked at the chop on the lake and thought of all you racers just a few miles west on Waconia. Made for a challenging swim and bike, I imagine. Looking forward to seeing the race reports!

Wind and course this morning was tough IMO.  They ended up cutting the swim in half except for the elite group as last year in similar conditions they had to pull a lot of people out of the water.  Waves were coming into the beach at about a 45 degree angle in 1 to 2 foot swells, so going out was tough and coming in was much easier, but still tough to breathe with the waves.  I saw a few people hanging onto buoys and some treading water to rest or doing the breast stroke - pretty typical I'd guess.

Going out on the bike was also tough as it was into the wind but coming back was easy cruising at 30 mph.  Still, I'd rather have calm!  The run was very tough I thought with the 4 mile out and back course being mostly uphill the first half.

I met my goals:
  1. I finished

  2. I didn't embarrass myself

  3. I broke 2 hours.

  4.  I had no gear issues and good transitions, despite a bunch of new things for me.

Anxious to hear what others thought.

Really, all you could do was laugh.  I was blown all over the road. I was tossed all over the lake. And I think I staggered all over the run :p

The swim was seriously ridicullous. I think I travelled about 1200 meters, zigging and zagging and washing backwards. No way to sight, really. And I think I probably travelled sveral hundred vertcal feet too...up, down. up, dwon. :-)

EJ and MM --- Great job sticking it out!  I was actually signed up to do the race, but am injured and can't run.  I had planned to do the swim and bike portions.... until I saw the wind reports last night on the weather.  I had nightmares all night about the swim and at 5:00am saw the gusts and just panicked and said "I can't do it".

WHile I feel like crap for a DNS (it would have been a DNF anyway), reading your comments makes me feel like I made the right decision.  I totally would have been the one clinging onto a bouy.

Congrats on finishing to both of you!  Kelly

Thanks for the kind words.  I just glanced at the results posted at the race as I had to get going to my sons baseball game, so I know I did ok but don't know the details.  They are not online yet as far as I know.

One bad and stupid thing - I forgot to start my watch, something I have never done before since I started running at age 12!

Results are here:  http://www.pigmantri.com/jmsracing/results09/wac09b.html

It's a weird site, but all of the Midwest Multisport Series events are posted on that site (http://www.pigmantri.com/jmsracing/results09/result09.html)

The swim was perfect at the Rochester Tri yesterday, maybe it's just a curse that follows Megan around

Alright, I may get in trouble for this but I won a pair of brand new 2009 Tubular Zipp 808's at this race.  They are too fancy for me, it would be like putting earrings on a pig.  Does anyone know anybody interesting in buying them for a very fair deal?  I'm asking $1500 for a brand new set.

Lucky!  You might want to create a new thread in the MN forum about this, with a Subject like "Want to buy my new Zipp wheels?" so people will look.  Good luck!

Wow, congrats on the great door prize!  It would be the same for me - earrings on a pig.  I need to invest more in the engine first!  Good luck selling them!  I have no idea of value or demand.

As a moderator, you are alright with that?  That was my only worry, didn't want to be blacklisted for putting a classified up!  This is kind of a special circumstance!

Honey, have you LOOKED around you at races? There are a lot of folks sporting a lot of bling who fall into the category of "earrings on pigs". For god's sake, I have an aero helmet. I don't need an aero helmet. I'm no Cathy Yndestad, let me tell you.

Keep the wheels...ride the wheels...ENJOY the wheels. Feel pretty on them (or studly or whatever).

Haha, great point.  I ended up already buying a bike for my wife with the money I thought I could get selling them.  Can I get an "agh, how sweet"?  I'm very tempted to keep them, but I have a hard time putting carbon aero wheels on an aluminum road bike, plus it will cost me about $300 in tires, a cassette and skewers.  Decisions, Decisions!
