Subject: FR 205 died
My Garmin Forerunner 205 has died. I miss it terribly and am torn between repairing or replacing. I have an email in to Garmin asking about their service rates. I have found the FR205 online for around $150, but why buy a "new" old model? I really want the 310xt it's pretty hard to get right now. Poop.

How old was it?  Mine stopped working recently and Garmin refurbished it under warranty (it was--luckily--two weeks short of one year old).  Works great now.

You can get the 305 for around $150 these days. Any reason you don't want HR? regardless, you can always not wear the strap...

Really, I don't see where the $310 adds a lot, certainly not enough IMHO to be worth twice the price...

why buy an old new model? the price works and the functionality ya need is there.  On my second one after mine died last year out of warranty.  I will get a third after i beat this one down and hopefully it costs under a hundo by then. ha!

It's great customer service. My3-month-old 305 fell off of my QR strap at >20mph, broke in two. Garmin representative: "Why yes, we'll cover that under warranty, no problem, no charge!"

What happened when you say "it died"?  My wife told me yesterday that her 205 died and she was already on the computer looking for a new one.  It wouldn't turn on and was blank in the charger which apparently means, "it died"   I downloaded the manual from the garmin website and performed a reset of the unit by holding down two of the buttons for 10 seconds while it was plugged in to the computer and now it works fine again.   Can't remember which two buttons.  Good luck.

Will not turn on when not on the charger. Tried the reset (mode/reset). Got nothing.

By "new" old model I meant a new 205. The 205 has been available for years. Mine is 3 years old but the model is older than that.

Don't train by heart rate now, but really like the ability to swim with the 310.

You understand that in the water the 310 is nothing more than an expensive stopwatch, right?

There seems to be mixed reviews from what I've read. Some are reporting decent GPS tracking on the swim.

Shipping it to Garmin under an RMA. They will swap it out with a refurbed unit fro $69. Not too bad all things considered.
