Pre-race routine:

Got up early, had coffee and a bowl of grape nuts. Drank a Muscle Milk light in the car, and some water. Thanks to my friend Tamara's driving ability, we got to the starting time plenty early. We used the portapottys right away--I got pooped on by a bird while in line--was that good luck or bad??? Stood around some more and found a few friends as they wandered by. Eventually took off the long sleeved shirt and put it in the bag check. Then I had to pee again but this time I used nature's potty. :) Lines were sooooo long at the bathrooms and the race was starting! I was in corral 11. Lynne found me as I lined up and started the race with me, which was nice.
Event warmup:

I stretched, jumped around....figured I'd have warm up time on the first mile or 2.

Comments:

The time flew by--so many people to pass and be passed by, and the weather was amazing--couldn't have been better. The last mile seemed really long, since we basically ran around the stadium--but it was the same length as the previous ones and it was lovely to see the finish line!! It was nice seeing the bands--although in the I-90 tunnel it was extremely loud!! I noticed on the first couple of miles that my pace was pretty fast, but I was feeling really good so I didn't slow down too much, and after the halfway point I tried to keep the pace in order to hit my 2 hour goal. Nothing hurt on the run, I didn't even feel out of breath--my HR was a few beats higher for the 2nd half but I think that is to be expected since I have never once in my life run 13 miles!! :) Even in training. Yep.

I am glad I bought a "boob tie down strap" thing at the expo--it really helped keep the girls under control and that also helped my upper body stay relaxed. It was fun seeing all the cheerleaders and fans out on the course, and there was a ton of water and cytomax available. I discovered at the 2nd water station that the cytomax had ice cubes in it, so always took some and sucked on the ice while I ran. I took a gu at about 6 1/2 miles and that really helped my energy level.

I BEAT 13071 PEOPLE WHO RAN THE HALF MARATHON. THAT IS FREAKIN' FREAKY! I BEAT 10202 WOMEN WHO RAN THE HALF MARATHON. (out of 11339 females). Me likey! Of course, many ran much faster than myself, but those numbers are totally nuts. I also think it is interesting that out of 15541 people who ran the half, 11339 were women. This was a very female-oriented race today.
What would you do differently?:

Not much--I felt like I hit my goals on this one! Now I know what a 1/2 marathon feels like......and have set the bar for my next one, and also for my 1/2 iron.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, banana, walked around, picked up my race bag, found my ride home, walked to Starbucks and had to drive for over an hour to retrieve cars and get back home. All done with a smile on my face--honking like crazy on I-90 at the runners.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing...I think I did well. Lack of knowing how to pace myself but still I think I did ok!

Event comments:

This was a fun race...I had a very negative attitude going into it and still am making up my mind as to how I feel about the logistics portion...but the race itself was a blast. Will I do it next year? We shall see!

Course: Tukwila to Seattle, through downtown, across the viaduct and down the ramp to Quest field. I thought we'd finish IN the stadium, but it was the parking lot, a bit anticlimactic....although the crowds were awesome!

Awesome race! It looks like you did a fantastic job pacing yourself (especially for your first!) and you had no trouble with the distance. Way to beat all those women. That's so cool.

Aren't half marathons a blast? I love this distance. Congrats on your first!

Wow, nice time.    I guess the bird Poop was lucky.   I had to wait 30 minutes from corral 19, so I got to see alot of people make the quick run over to the buildings to pee.  Funny thing, the peeers were behind bushes, but the windows reflected them.

A finish into Quest Field maybe for next year...That would be cool.

Leslie, awesome job.  Getting pooped on is definitely good luck.

Yeah, I noticed there were a lot of women there too.  Didn't realize it was that disproportionate.  In any case, you smoked almost all of them.  Way to go!!!
