Anyone know the water temp of Nokomis lately?  I'm coming up from Atlanta and do not want to haul a wetsuit.

I can't find the web site that has the lake temps, although I know there is one.  However, the lake is usually right on the edge of being too warm for wet suits and a few years ago it wasn't even wet suit legal.  So you should be fine.

73.2 as of June 29th. I would expect that to go down a bit as its been very cool here the past few days with the lows dropping in the low 50's. And its not supposed to warm up that much until late next week. I would be shocked if it will hit 78 by the 11th.

Not sure why you would not want to use your wetsuit if its legal to do so.

Thanks for the information.
Why not wear a wetsuit---hauling 4 kids, 2 dogs, 6 bikes, hockey gear etc.  but the real reason is I've never worn a wetsuit -I've  done 1 olympic 2 years ago and didn't wear a wetsuit - However I need to as I'm dong my first half in September and it should be wetsuit legal.  I'm in Mn most of July and need to practice w/ wetsuit and the lakes near my home are like bath water, ewwwww.  Guess after thinking it through I'm bringing the suit.

There have been times in the last few years when race day is pretty darn hot.  I don't know if we'll be approaching bath tub warm water, but it wouldn't surprise me at that point.

Wow!  I can see why you're being conservative in your packing   While you certainly won't "need" it, the practice will probably help.

Most of us in MPLS Nokomis just go back and forth between the buoys at the official swimming area.  I wouldn't want to be swimming outside of the area anyway with the sailboats going to and fro and the planes drowning out any noise you might make.

I haven't gotten my registration email yet.  Are we going to be able to check in/register Friday and leave our bikes in the transition area with security?  Or will 3000 people have to check in and set up the morning of the race?

I've not done the race, but have several friends who have.  There will be an expo on Friday for you to pick up your packets, chip, etc.  On race day you will not need to "check in" per se, but that is when you will have to set up your stuff.

Anyone here volunteering or hanging out at the race? I'm body marking so I'll be done early and would love to meet up with a few of you.

I am still debating.  Make sure you get to the finish line around 8:45 to watch the pros come in.  They are so awesome!  I've always wanted to slap Andy Potts (his hand, I mean... ha ha).

Here's the pro list, if that interests you: http://www.ltftriathlon.com/spectators/index.php?strWebAction=pro_bios

Nokomis 50th Beach Status

Beach Open

Beaches are tested for E. coli bacteria, which can indicate a health risk. A result over 1260, as recommended by the State of Minnesota, will close the beach. For more information, see the swimming beach page.

I'm liking those low e. coli numbers, considering I'm hitting Nokomis about once a week.  Hope they're accurate.  Would hate to have an incident before this Saturday...

Good luck with taper this week everyone (this entire month has been a taper for me...)...

We should be good to go with wetsuits on Saturday. With the rain coming tonight and tomorrow, not much of a chance for the water temp to rise to 78.

And the weather looks perfect for Saturday.

Thanks Sarah!

Hoping to get in one more open water swim at Nokomis this afternoon (1200 yds) after the LTF Tri Expo.  Hopefully they don't have the whole beach closed off...
