Subject: Rear Mounted Hydration Systems
So I recently got a P3 and am shopping around for a hydration system. I really don't think I would like the big "aero" ones that go upfront, so I'm looking at the rear mounted ones. Anyone have some advice on what ones they like? Stability is my biggest concern, I don't want bottles flying out everytime I hit a bump.

I've got a P2C and use an X-Lab, but not with Gorilla cages.

I lost 3 bottles over the past 4 months on ejections - didn't even realize they were gone until I reached back and it was missing. I have the adjustable metal cages (you can bend them), but if I tightened them to prevent ejections, I couldn't pull the bottle out at all.

Duct taping the bottles was recommended, as it's been working for me in the last 2 weeks, but I admit that I still worry about ejections. It's a real issue and can even get annoying to the point of wanting to ditch the entire rear system and just go with the front aerobar system if it happens to you.

I too am looking for a rear mount hydration. I know Xlab makes a specific for some of the Cervelo seatposts, I think it's the Sonic. I like the carbon wing model.

Um, a slightly cheaper option than the X-Lab variety is the TACX Saddle Clamp mount, you can fit single or double cages to this, I use the TACX saddle mount with two TACX Juno Bottle cages and the TACX supplied bottles (or for longer rides the SIS specific 1.5 ltr bottles), this is a good system and secure, I have had no issues at all.  but I imagine this is quite a bit heavier than the X-Lab variety ;-), but to be honest the weight of this system compared to the weight of two full bottles is not significant :-)

I have a HydroTail with the Gorilla cages. Jim's right, those cages are monsters! I prefer the HydroTail as it lowers the profile of the bottles behind the seat.

Neverreach is another option, it is bolted to your bike seat and does not go anywhere with a tube up to the front.  I end up using both the neverreach and the podiumquest aero bottle for long rides in the middle of nowhere.

X2 with the NeverReach. I love this system. It holds 64 oz, has a great cap that you can refill on the fly during races and has been quite the conversation piece on group rides.

The only "problems" I have had are 1)I set my bike down in an IM race to change a flat and all the water leaked out and 2) Filling it up before a race that starts off with a hill makes the climb harder than it should be. Both of those issues are a 1 time only mistake.

I am cheap and practical.  I use this one from Minoura.  Then I buy a couple cheap aluminum bottle holders so that I can bend them to hold the bottles snugger.  I have launched a bottle now and then over a particularly harsh bump or after many rides of forgetting to check that the holders are still bent appropriately snug, but for the most part I find I don't need to worry about them this way.

Also, this is for training only.  I hope to never have to use any rear-mounted system for racing.  At most, I race with one on the frame and one between the bars (not a typical aerobottle, just a normal holder zip-tied between the aero bars).  Ideally, just the latter.

I will have to try the gorilla cages. But I have an Xlab and I put a rubber band from the top of the bottle to the bottom of the cage and have never lost a bottle like that.
