Subject: RE: Longest Ride You've Done on a Trainer Originally posted by Dnn Do you people have a different trainer than me or something. 1.5 hours kills me; it's just tough and boring as hell. Even if I watch a movie I just get frustrated with it and really have to fight to get through a session (if it's longer than 60 min) It takes both a good setup as well as practice to get the long sessions. It generally doesn't work well if you just try and go 3 hrs on your first indoor session, even if you've been riding outdoors for 4-5 hrs at a time regularly. Different mindset, different position demands (I find the trainer more demanding than outdoors due to the static position), and different power demands depending on what you're doing. I have what I think is a solid functional setup for serious long training on the trainer. Dedicated space in the garage, powermeter + Trainerroad, large computer screen which I hook my laptop to, and BT headphones for video. Oh, and big fan. When I start the serious indoor stuff, anything over 90 mins is deathly hard, but after sticking with it, 3 hrs is no big deal. Trainerroad keeps you honest and from slacking on those long rides. |
