Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Would love to hear everyone's 2 cents on the issue. I thought about it this morning while I was out for a 90min run and it was still dark out but it was cool to be out there and then have the sun come it. Sunrise might be my new favorite time although I very much like at night too. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My favorite time of day to train...is....early in the morning...feel fresh with full energy...and...now more in Summer time...here in South Florida...to avoid the heat and humidity....Ufffffff!!! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't really have a favorite time of day to train. The only time I really dislike, is early morning swimming. The races are ok, because I've been up for a couple hours. But to just roll out of bed and go to the pool...no thanks. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a love/hate relationship with early mornings. I love them because the workout is complete before I come up with a million excuses, the weather is usually better, and I am fresh from a good night's sleep. I hate them because I LOVE to sleep and often blow off early morning workouts unless I have a training partner. In an ideal world (with year round school and no job), I would prefer mid morning from 8am-11am ![]() Pam |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() All of my training is done at lunch time or after work, but like aboe if work was not an issue I would love to be out the door by 8am after being awake for a couple hours and done by noon. Since that is not a reality I like training after work more than the lunch time becaue I get more time, it helps relieve stress built up at work, and on occasions I can take my kids with me on the easier days. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I like early before sunrise best. Get to see the coyotes staring at me wondering "WTF?" and see the sunrise before it turns into 115 degrees. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'd have to say between lunch and dinner. I absolutely hate training in the morning. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I do the bulk of my training between 10 am - 1 pm. I don't like early morning because I'm not fully awake and therefore don't perform well. I don't like evening because I'm tired out by then. Racing early morning is different since I get up a couple hours before a race, whereas I wouldn't do that for training. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I used to train all the time betwen 3-5pm and loved it. It's that slump in the day when you need a boost or you find yourself passed out in front of your pc. And I found it gave me enough of a boost to carry me through the night time activities. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I really like mid morning workouts. Not so long ago when I worked from home I would do my workouts around 10:00 AM and loved it. Now that I am back in the real world in an office I attempt to do morning workouts but my wife works evenings and most the time I am up late waiting for her to get home so I end up sleeping in and just doing them in the afternoon/evening. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed at 4 a.m.!!! ![]() I have a couple of sips of coffee while I make my bed and throw my clothes on, then I'm out the door by 4:15 am with my dog for a 20 min wake up/warm up walk. The I take her home, do some stretches and hit the road running!!! The stillness of the dark morning is creepy at first with only crickets for company, but soon I am joined by the early birds waking up with a song. Next, the sun gets up to join me with its pink and crimson hues appearing over the horizon. I LOVE early morning runs! If I'm swimming at the YMCA, I'm there when the doors open at 5:30 a.m. I do additional workouts in the evening around 6 pm, but I don't like evening workouts. Too worn out and stressed out from the work day. ![]() Edited by maria40nc 2009-07-30 11:54 AM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning is good, but I start work at 0630, so to get a 1.5hr run or ride would mean getting up at 4, running from 4:15-5:45. Just too darn early during the week. Most of my weekday workouts are after work, 3pm. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This doesn't always work out with people's schedules, but I go with the theory of training same time you are racing. I will typically swim around 7am when most tri's start. This only applies for race season, but down in Florida that is 10 months out of the year. Bike I am a little more flexible with and on the run, I try to start around 8am so that I am used to the heat/humity at that time. This just makes sense to me. Again, this is in a perfect world, otherwise, I split my workouts between the morning and late night after rug rats are sleeping. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've always preferred night time workouts. I get a lot of energy in the evenings and exercising after work is a perfect stress reliever. However, I do enjoy late morning workouts on the weekends! Edited by happyshoes 2009-07-30 6:51 PM |

My dad and I both have the fortune of working during the evening, so we get to do this. It's awesome! Rush-hour traffic is gone, and not too hot yet. It is SO easy to get in great 2+ hour rides before heading off to work. It's pretty much the way to go! I actually planned my schedule next semester so I can work out during the day around those times... I am definitely addicted now ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We eat dinner at about 7:00pm. If I hurry I can finish work by 5:00pm. I therefore have about 1 hour and thirty minutes to train most days. Around here unfortunately that's the windiest time of the day. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Early mornings, definitely. I love waking up to a quiet world, with time to myself to wake up and think without all the noises of life. Any morning workout is great, but particularly I love run and swim morning workouts (probably because I like being in the dark when I leave and when running I like to end when it is still a little dark - if the sun is just setting, perfect - but I like it better when the sun doesn't set while I am running because when I get home I feel like it's a whole different day, that I am finishing a different workout than the one I started x minutes before. And depending on how early you start, you can still finish before the hustle and bustle of the 9-5ers commuting to work. Concluding a workout with peace to stretch, be able to think with minimal distractions, and take a moment to be thankful for the beautiful day puts me in top spirits. (IMO a day that starts out with exercise and endorphins can never start out badly!) Plus, I get to feel accomplished by 7am rather than sleeping my butt in and perhaps contemplating my desire to do my evening workout. I find it much easier to get in an evening workout when I have already done a morning one, for some strange reason. Morning workouts rock my world! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Late afternoon is best for me. My body just doesn't function well real early in the day. Though occasionally I enjoy a morning swim, run or ride. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 5.30 am I either run or swim in the morning. If I bike, the earliest is 7am, due to light and safety and it's too cold. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am not a morning person at all. I swear Tri Directors are all out to get us. As a volunteer at Iron Girl Las Vegas, I had to be there at 4 am......... My job allows me to have flexible hours, so I can acutally work out whenever I want. I prefer a 4pm to 9 pm time frame. My bike rides during the week are up hills in residential neighborhoods while most are on the freeway, and my gym has enough equipment so no matter how crowded it is, I never have to wait, and hardly anyone is swimming anyway. Most of my cycling club like the 5 to 6 am but I just don't work well at that time of the day if I have a choice.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I used to work out as soon as I got home from work, so around 8 a.m. Now, I sleep when I get home so I can do Normal Human Activities in the evening. Thus, I usually work out when I get up, anywhere from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. I'll go back to working out in the morning this winter, if I'm still stuck on nights. I tried working out in the dark once. Precisely once. I was okay with the fox stalking me, and I could handle the deer tailing me, but the moose was a little creepy. Once it got to the bear, wolf, coyote, and hyena discussing which route I would take and how best to surprise me at each turn, I gave it up as no good. I'm about to find out about biking in the dark from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., and then again from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Gonna start commuting. Should be an adventure! ![]() |
