Subject: RE: Breaking News: Triathletes Like to Talk About Being TriathletesI was thinking about this today. A couple people likened it to listening to others talking about their kids. They feel obliged to ask, then sit through the tedious boredom of smile-and-nod listening. I'm wondering if you've ever actually, oh, I don't know, listened? I've learned a lot about my coworkers, past and present, in hearing their random daily ramblings about their doings, their families, kids, sports, whatever. It certainly is a heck of a lot more interesting than knowing someone only as a job title. Plus, I learn new stuff, and sometimes get to do cool things (ocean sailing, etc. ). I mean, I don't really care about every little details of little Lily's potty training exploits, but I listened, laughed, commiserated, and was able to (hopefully ) give real support when little Lily ended up in the hospital overnight. |
