I know this is the same weekend as the Augusta half so not sure what kind of BT turnout may be there. Considering doing this one and looking for some folks to ride with. Who's in? I'll still be on my flat bar hybrid but for once (and this may be the only time) that may be an advantage since I've got a triple up front.

Did it last year, well 86 miles and 5 of 6 Gaps - had a mechanical issue that forced me to drop at the base of Woody, but up to that point I'd had a very good ride and finishing was a done deal.

This said, only going to do 3 Gap 50 this year; training's been too hit-or-miss.

Neal - are you doing Augusta or hitting Six Gap again?

I'm probably in.  I have a HIM the next week, but it's a "B" race.  I want to take revenge on Hogpen.  It kicked my arse last time.

For those of you that have done this, what is a typical time to complete / pace. I train on all of the "hills" I can in south ATL but haven't done any what I would call "mountains". Not really sure what to expect other than pain & suffering. Is this a race or more of something to survive / complete? Thanks in advance for all your advice! Really want to hook up with some experienced folks who can help guide me through. I'm a decently strong cyclist but haven't done anything like this before and don't want to blow up prematurely.

Found results posted from last years ride at:

http://buttar.com/events/2008/09.28.08.SixGap/sixgap.htm

Looks like my AG (35-39) had times between 5+ hours to 11+ hours. One must be in a bad, bad place as the ride approaches 11 hours! And whoever is doing this thing in 5 hours is some sort of cycling demi-god.

LHablas - 2009-08-13 4:01 PM Neal - are you doing Augusta or hitting Six Gap again?

Unfortunately, I am doing the Augusta HIM.  I would thought I had checked to make sure they did not interfere with each other.  I would do it if I had not already paid for the Augusta entry.

That is my favorite century.

They give you a timing chip, record your time, post your time, and tell you often that it is not a race.  If you have never ridden the gaps I would stongly recommend that you ride them once or twice before you do all six at once.  I would do the bottom three one weekend (BTW, Cornelius300 is looking for someone to ride them this weekend) and the top three another weekend.   I have old women from Florida pass me going up Hogpen so what do I know though.... just say'in...

and BTW, be careful on the downhills.  If you have not heard, an experience female cyclist was killed on the downhill of Hogpen on last year's ride.
