Subject: Erogomo Pro power meter - Any thoughts and / or experiences?

Hello,

I have the opportunity to buy an Ergomo Pro power meter.

http://www.bicyclepowermeters.com/ergomoproproducts.html

Do you have any thoughts and or experiences with this specific power meter? Via the search function I have found a few "Power Meter" threads. Mostly people were recommending SRM and Power Tap, and there were some critical comments about the Ergomo. But unfortunately no detail.

Take care

Unless someone is giving it to you, I'd pass.  Ergomo is out of business, has no product support and most people I know who have one have had issues with theirs.

Unless you speak German, I'd say no.

Also take a look a Quarq.  I've got a Quarq and it's paired with a Garmin 705, love it.  PT are great also.

I don't have any exp. with SRM.

Actually, one of the former owners of the company has re-launched the company.  There's a blurb about it on the ergomo user group website (don't have a link handy at home).  So, there is hope on that front, but I wouldn't invest in one right now if I were you.  I've had one for 2.5 years and pulled it off my race bike last week due to mechanical failure. I did probably get my moneys worth on the life expectancy.  I'm going techno-naked racing for a while.   As far as the Ergomo, it is nice to have the pm in the bottom bracket which allows you to use any wheel you want (train/race) but too many unknowns with the company right now.

Yeah, I would hold off on an Ergomo and see what happens.  When my Ergomo worked I loved it.  But then one day it stopped working.

I found this link by searching for what Birkie was talking about.  From the sounds of it original owners are SOL...

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your comments so far.

What I forgot to say is, that I could buy an Ergomo used (according to the description "not a lot of usage". Don't know yet what the seller would like to convey with that, because once the bottom bracket is installed, one uses it always) for $ 500.

Funny thing is, I am actually German. But that would not help me a lot in case of a problem, as I live in Canada now!

As said here earlier, don't do it. Even used, $500 is a lot for a power meter with no support and no issues. Pass on this one. Look into an iBike or PT to get power on the cheap.

Another vote against the Ergomo here. May as well buy a used powertap and get actual reliability.

What about the entry level power tap (600 bucks)

http://www.saris.com/p-366-powertap-comp.aspx

Is that all a person would need?
