Pre-race routine:

Dunkin Donuts bagel with cream cheese and a coffee. I had my kids to wake up at 5am, so I was a bit late getting going. This translated into not getting there early enough to get the good parking spots. Amazingly, I wasn't really nervous and this felt GREAT.
Event warmup:

No warmup
Swim
  • 00m
  • 250 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was so easy and relaxed. It was a very short swim and seemed barely like a warmup. I was completely at ease and energized when I got out.
What would you do differently?:

Just work on my technique.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I was delayed slightly to give my kids a hug and kiss. I wasn't rushing through transition. I took a couple of sips of my gel pack, and a few swigs (is that a word?) of water. Rasberry is good!!
What would you do differently?:

be more swift.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 10 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I have to get these quads stronger.
What would you do differently?:

be more aggressive.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition was great and I felt great. Mike from BT was there to greet me, (he had finished the race). Great to meet you Mike!! I took another swig of the gel pack, some water, waved to my kids and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

maybe a stretch or two real quick?
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.5 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

I doing a slow pace, but knew it would get me through the run without feeling like going to a walk. AND IT DID.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to work on stepping things up another notch. I'm ready.
Post race
Event comments:

It was a great race, great weather, nice people and it seemed to run smoothly. It would be nice to have timing chips (especially because they seemed to lose my time...no posts on it, but Andrew Dalton is looking into it and he is a super nice guy and cares alot about the race).

Course: Course was great riding out over a getty and onto a beautiful islandish area of Marblehad. We did a loop three times and returned. The loop had one strong but quick hill requiring me to stand. After the hill there was great time to recover before reaching (very do-able) smaller hills. Actually the downhills took you up pretty easily the following ones, so really there was just the intial hill that challenged me.

If you considered how much time it took you to stop to kiss your kids (lets say 30 seconds), I'd guess to bet that in the grand scheme of things, you'd do it again and again knowing what it meant to your children.  I frankly think you made the right decision.  Can you imagine what a role model you are for them?  In that brief moment, you told them that nothing is more important than they are, that you'll take precious seconds out during a race to give 'em some love.  That's what Mom's are for.

Congratulations on finishing the race.  Congratulations all the more for having your priorities in order.

Thanks everyone!! I just got the results online....I am soooo slow! Guess what? I was last on the bike time!! I've got to get more aggressive. I guess in a way though, i'm still really just "doing the races", not really "racing". I'm enjoying the ride one might say. Its only when its all said and done and I see the NUMBERS that i figure I should really step it up.

Thanks Motivated for your note on my kids and my LOVIN i love to give them!! lol.

Great race and I'm glad you were relaxed and having fun. Who puts on that Tri...need to consider it next year.

Hope your knee surgery goes well and you'll be back to training and racing soon.

Thanks everyone!!

I was so so slow, but never the less had a great race. My pre-race nerves were the best yet, and for this I feel an overwhelming sense of improvement. My swim was super easy and this felt great. I never went to a walk on the run and this was a good feeling as well. Now I have to improve on my strength on the bike and my run time, and of course my swim technique.

Kathy, Andrew Dalton is the guy who puts it on. Below is the link to the race site/registration and also Andrew's e-mail so you can request you get on the reminder list next year.
