So happy to hear the good news.  Hopefully things will just keep on getting brighter for both Richard and Julia.

See if he can laugh at your jokes.  It's a good sign for frontal lobe function.  I don't know him, but I'm feeling their pain.

Just saw this on the info page:

08/31/2009 Great news... Richard is TALKING and RECOGNIZING everyone: Nico, Lynn, Drew, Zev, Sydney, Zev. He asked about Ramone. It's just absolutely breathtaking! His words are a bit garbled from a sore throat (from the tube) and the neck brace and alot of plegm certainly doesn't help. He has "GRADUATED" to the MTU (multi trauma unit) on the 4th floor - room 4270. Please check in with the nurses - same 10 minute 2 person limit. He's gonna need lots of visits and positive talk and plenty of rest too. To quote one doctor "Richard is WAY ahead of schedule" - sound's like Dime eh?!!

From http://dickdime.info/latest.html:

09/15/2009 I am going to preface this update with some general information regarding updating Richard's progress. The reason it has been some time since the last update is that this is going to be a long process and recovery so things are happening slowly. Richard has a traumatic brain injury (TBI) so if you research that it will help you understand the recovery process better. So on to the good stuff! Yesterday Richard was able to walk from his room and down the hallway to the next room and back! He gets tired really quickly but this was huge! Today he was able to sit in the stationary bike in his room and pedal it around 4 or 5 times! I (Drew) am really working hard with the nurses to get him up out of bed as much as he can because he has been laying in bed for 3 weeks now. Also in the last few days he has made some good progress with eating and drinking so that is good news too. Until today and yesterday there hasn't really been anything new to report so thanks for being patient.

For any one researching TBI, or involved with caring for Richard, here is a good place to start:

Our fundraising continues with tech shirts from Brooks that we are selling with 100% of the proceeds going to Richard's care.
Click on http://dickdime.info/merchandise.htmlfor the fun tech shirts.

have raised about $17500.00 so far and our goal is to raise at least $50,000.00 for Richard's rehab and housing needs.
Selling out our first batch of 100 shirts would get us over $

Please help!
