Just got the email.  Exciting!  I may have to do it in 2011.  My New York venture for next year is S.O.S. but I may have to look into this for future years.

Is the site running extremely slow for anyone else?

I will probably do this race but I am not going to sign up for a 70.3 over 1 year in advance.

Cool! I'm looking for a 70.3 that time of year and in this region for my first next year. Bike course map doesn't look too hilly from the map and grade. Anyone know the course?

The bike course is deceiving... it starts in a relatively low area and then you head south towards the ski resorts (close to apulia and truxton). There are lots of big hills in the area. Mapmyride puts the elevation gain at only 1778', which seems pretty reasonable.

I usually don't go south of rt 20, but apulia rd and jamesville rd are decent enough. Bush rd is a big hill with a 90' turn in the middle, and the road surface is not so good.

The run route I wouldn't recommend doing unless it was on race day =p Goes right through the parts of town that most runners would try to avoid.

I am on the fence, it is a year too soon for me for that distance, but being the first one it is tempting...

When do you think it will sell out by?

I am not worried about this race selling out. Not many of the 70.3s sell out especially not in the first year of the race.

So tempted...Living in NYC and having grown up in Endwell (you from Binghamton and Horseheads will know it), but I also know the hills of upstate NY....so biding my time to think this one over as it would be my first 70.3.

I will sign up for this one.  Goal is to be registered before December 1st.  Anyone interested in a spring / early summer  training trip to the area.

I live about an hour away so I'll be making at least one trip to pre-ride the bike course and post a review.  It really doesn't look too bad for upstate NY in terms of hills.

I'm looking for a 70.3 that's not so hilly as syracuse, preferably towards August - September of 2010.  It will be my first 70.3  Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks!

what part of NY are you in?

check out pumpkinman in Maine.  it was my first half, and the course is pretty nice....noce that hilly at all.  kind of like mini mussle in geneva, NY.  if you are towards albany/NYC  area, it would be an easy drive for you.  cant say enough good things about the race.  it is 2nd sunday in september

http://www.timbermantri.com/timberman.html

Its an entire weeked thing and looks really motivating.  A friend and I both signed up for this one as our "first"  HIM..........It's in August in New Hampshire

I am just getting into tri's and will be hitting the sprints hard next year.  Since you live so close, would you be willing to be a resource for me...cheerleader, advice giver, "kick my butt into gear'er!

Let me know what you think.

cusetri - thanks for the race suggestions.  they all look pretty nice, i wasn't really aware that there were so many here in new york.  i'm in manhattan, so very happy to get out and about away from the city.  it looks like registration is gonna be open for a while for each one, so i'm gonna take a few weeks to make a decision.  i was looking up in new hampshire, as well (see post above) - they all look really nice!  who knows, maybe i'll take on two.  thanks man.

absolutely, Dove - thought the butt-kicking-into-gear may have to be mutual!

i'm thinking that winter is going to be relatively easy compared to the spring and summer when the real plan-following and committed-without-questoin training comes into play with the days until race day gradually ticking down, so getting on the same page early on sounds like a good plan.

have you started training yet?  what's your background?

I'm signed up, too. This year so far it's Rev 3 in June (Connecticut) and Syracuse. I'll be sitting by my computer to see if I can land a spot in Florida next November. I'm really looking forward to Syracuse, though! Hopefully I'll see some of you there...

Bob and Mike - any idea how the Syracuse bike course profile compare to Musselman? Just want to have an idea of what I'm getting myself into!

Hard to say until I ride it, but this bike course looks tougher than Musselman, although the run course is much flatter so it could be a wash.  I'm doing both races in 2010 so I'll be pre-riding both, hopefully in early spring.

FWIW, I did do an Oly in that area this past August and the bike course was challenging.
