Hah - I went to create this thread using the link in the Race Log and it put it in the Wisconsin forum   Nothing against Wisconsin, but it's hard to follow threads in other states.

Anywhoo...  who will be at Burrito Union?  Anyone other than me and mjewan?

Forecast is 75 and clear, so I am beyond happy and relieved.  I hope it stays that way.

Doing Square Lake...prediction is rain but no thunderstorms...so hopefully won't be a repeat of Turtleman...

What's the weather forecast for Superior?

Like the new av, btw...

Thanks Sal!  They are saying 75 and clear right now, according to weather.com who I will choose to believe - for now... I hope you guys are similarly lucky at Square Lake!

I'll be spectating in Madison so once again I won't be there.  When are they going to have this race on a weekend other than the one IMWI is on?

Good luck Emily & Mike!

AccuWeather shows cloudy, high of 69 but a low of 58 on Fri, so not real cold first thing in the am.  Winds only 3-4 mph.  That's even better than clear and 75 for racing.  We are camping right at Pattison State Park, site 58, on Fri & Sat.  Stop by if you are racing.  I'm doing the solo 5 hour, my son is doing the solo 10 hour.

Good luck!  One of these years I hope to be there with you.  Have a great time, and don't let that hill kill you.

You mean not everyone reads my log religiously?  I assumed everyone knew.

I think what Jeff is referring to is my FIRST PLACE in AG award, as well as Second Place over all of the female 5-hour solo competitors.  And I even legitimately got 1st in my AG, it wasn't a roll-down.  I was worried that the winner was my age, but she turned out to be at least 3 years younger.

You can read the race report here:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=179869

About Burrito Union in general, I left the event feeling even more impressed than I did last year.  This is a great event!  There are enough categories and challenges for virtually every type of competitor.  Short, long, fast, slow, competitive, just for fun.  The RDs are excellent, I have never been so entertained at a race meeting.  One of them (Rod Raymond) also competed and he cheered for me every time he passed me on the trail.  What a good guy.    It's a shame this is scheduled on IMWI weekend usually, but if you can make the trip it's totally worth it.  Pattison State Park is quite lovely as well.  Although watch out for the trails - they will chew you up and spit you out.

Funny aside:  I skinned my knee during the race and have been struggling with the healing process.  Then I had a revelation - I have an Aquaphor sample!  I put a nice thick coat on yesterday and it's already looked better.  That stuff is great.  I am going to hit up the Aquaphor folks at the next race   I had to buy a tube

That's more like it!

I've kicked around heading to Burrito Union and with a pitch like yours 2010 may have to be the year.

I raced at Burrito Union this year for the first time and I'd second Emily's opinion it's a fun race.  A truly unique racing experience.  I was going great until double flat on my last bike leg.  Pattison is a nice State park for camping, we stayed both Fri and Sat nights.  One caveat, if there was wet weather the trail run woud get very interesting.  It's a true trail run, almost entirely on dirt, meant for primarily single file, with the appropriate roots, rocks, foot bridge, wood steps, few straight stretches, etc.   If real wet it would be difficult to say the least.  But hey, that's part of the fun.

True about the trail and worth a warning.  You won't be setting any PRs on this run, unless you're an experienced trail runner.  I stood aside to let people pass a lot.

Next year I'm getting trail shoes and practising.

+1000.

This race needs way more love.  Anyone who's never done this should add it to their "must do" list immediately.

FYI -- After the race they announced that the run course was actually 5.8k (3.5mi), not the advertised 5k.  So not only did you run farther than you thought you did, you did it faster.
