Pre-race routine:

woke up at 6 after a restless night sleep, ate oatmeal and carnation instant breakfast. Got kids up and out the door before 7!
Event warmup:

racked bike. ate a gel and took a few up and down transition, legs felt very tight. stretched some. Gave kisses to the family. Got in the water and took a few strokes did a flip turn and waited for the whistle!

Comments:

this was one of my worse swims ever! I forgot my goggles at the Y so I used my daughters for the race...1st mistake! Goggles kept fogging up and they were mirrored so I couldn't see anything! Tried cleaning them a few times at the shallow end but it only lasted to the end of the lane. Couldn't see the wall to get a glide for the flip, had Pam as first swimmer she was injured so plan was to let me pass at the wall, pushed too hard so she wasn't waiting for me, never got into a rhythm. This just plain sucked!
What would you do differently?:

need to figure out why my swim is not improving.

Comments:

Waved to the family and I was off!I am stoked about this bike! I know for most this is slow but I was cruzin for me! My goal was to get under 50 min, last fall I was 51:39 on the bike. Told myself I was pushing this hard and if the legs fell off on the run oh well! I wanted to see if I could really push. Headin out felt great 35mph on the first hill! Got through the first turn and bam hit by the wind! It stayed with me the whole ride, if it wasn't directly in my face (almost felt like I was standing still!) It was pushing me over from the side! I didn't care! I was going to push no matter what! Felt great around most of the turns also....not so granny like! No one in sight...first time I didn't get passed on the bike!
What would you do differently?:

continue to practice on my bike. I really need to spend more time here.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

just needs more practice...went with socks for the run.

Comments:

Gave kisses to my waiting family...Tom yelled out now go make the donkey nation proud! Legs were not too happy with me but I told myself I would recover! Bring knees up, open stride, run tall, relax shoulders.....just keep moving! Felt more like a shuffle then a run but I put one foot in front of the other. As I was out there I saw a guy in a brown shirt up ahead and said "there's your carrot Kim, now go get him! With every straight away I was closing in but he was always just out of reach. We rounded the bend, me about 100 yards or so behind and up the hill we go I couldn't keep running so took a few steps and the volunteer said really? you have 3/4 of a mile left no walking! The guy heard him turned and saw me and took off! I DTFU and got moving. Down the hill now on the last straight away and I'm right behind him. I saw his stride fall apart, he moved over and I passed him with a "good race" and he says "ya right!" Cross the line feeling totally spent with the biggest high! No one passed me and I passed a guy!
What would you do differently?:

continue running hills and just more running!
Post race
Warm down:

Gave kisses to hubby and kids. Walked around had a piece of watermelon, an apple and a chocolate chip cookie, waited around as others crossed. Tried looking for other donks(jabraunski and Patrick) but couldn't find them until the end.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind and inconsistent training the last month or so.

Event comments:

good group of peeps that run this. Volunteers though plenty needed to get their noses out of the books and pay attention to the racers!
