Subject: I should not enter this race...right?......right?
I need to get to Austin to visit family very soon and just realized I could go and do the Longhorn 70.3 on 10/25.

Pros:
 - Get credit for visiting family (have to make the rounds ever so often, you know)
 - Get to race again - yay!
 - Think I could have a decent race
 - Good deal on airfare right now, can stay with family so costs are low

Cons:
 - IMWI was my last scheduled race of the year.  This is out of the blue, so I would have to ramp back up pretty fast
 - Extra travel.  I have 2 young kids and would travel alone to Austin.  Tuesday following the race I have to be in Chicago for work...leaving DH to watch the kids for almost an entire week.  DH has given me the okay, but I still know that's a lot to ask.

My brain says this is a bad idea, but my heart would love to go for it.  Which side should I listen to?

You just finshed IMWI, so I'm guessing your base is pretty good... you could easily get into HIM shape quickly.

DH is on board.

Mmmm.... sounds like fate has placed 70.3 miles in your lap. And it sounds to me like you already know the answer.

Another pro:  it's a pretty cool event - - the water is warm, the bike course is 1 loop, and there's a big BT presence.

How do you feel post IM?

Have you done any runs with an intensity? Did it go well? I've heard over and over that is a key to determine how well you have recovered. There is the superficial recovery post IM but there is a deep over all fatigue that sometimes gets overlooked.

My suggestion is to test yourself and see how hard work feels before you decide.

If you knew it was right to do the race you may not have asked so it makes me think you have some doubts.

I've been thinking about adding another race onto my schedule as well after IM WI. I was talking with a friend who said, "If you think you'll look back and wish you would have tried...then you need to race." I say, "Go for it!"

Sure why not. And if you feel like you aren't ready for the run portion... just do the Aqua bike.

I'm in the minority but enjoy the kiddies while you can before you know it they'll be all grown up.

The race will still be there when life's a little easier.  Just speaking from personal experience.
