Saw paranormal activity last night with my brother, woke up a few times tonight hearing things go bump. Really really slow starter, people were laughing initially, but the climax was intense. It had exorcist scary potential, but a few things kept it from there. Worth seeing but certainly leave the kids at home for this one unless you want them sleeping with you.

I am staying away from that movie. I'm a wimp when it comes to scary movies. I literally walked out of one movie that my fiance wanted to see, we went with some friends. About 15 minutes into the movie, I went sit in the lobby and let them watch it. Scary is not entertaining for me. My choice for movie-going last night: Where the Wild Things Are! So good!! I love talking animated 'things.' :-)

Unless there are sex scenes, this sounds like it is right up my kids' alley.  LOL

I agree.  I'm more scared about paranormal and religious (Revelations) type movies than I am of Friday the 13th type.

Thanks for the info.  It's been cold and rainy so we are looking for something to do this weekend.

Yeah, one of the latest to come close to "getting" to me was Mirrors.

Watched Ju-on 2 (the Japanese sequel to The Ring), and I actually laughed through most of it. But the American version of The Ring... That one got me.

The Ring didn't really get me. It was really well done in terms of pacing, lighting, locations, etc, but the story line was just dumb to me.

The last movie to scare me was "The Strangers." Very well done, and they made good use of sound and filling the frame.

Paranormal Activity is the only movie to have ever given me nightmares. Scared the bejesus out of me. For the record, I do believe that demons and evil spirits exist, so it just freaked me out that much more.

Now Where the Wild Things Are was wonderful. Saw it last night, got teary eyed on a few occasions.....

Oh, The Ring turned me off from scary movies entirely. And just the preview for The Strangers practically scared me to tears. Whenever the TV previews were on, I either had to mute it and look away, or fastforward (if it was on DVR). I'm not really THAT much of a scaredy-cat, but dang...there was just something about both of those films. And I didn't even see The Strangers!

I will NOT be seeing this movie...heard an ad for it on the radio over the weekend, full of screaming audience members...nope...

Last scary movie I saw was "The Wizard of Oz", and that's where I draw the line.  The wicked witch and flying monkeys are just too much for me.

I have had a french movie called Martyrs on my computer for about 6 months and just can't watch it. I watched the first 10 minutes with the boy and we were both whimpering like children. I've decided I will only watch it with a large group of people to make it less scary (for some reason, things aren't as scary if you're surrounded by friends). One of these days I'll probably just delete it and give up. I'm such a wuss.

What's scary about it?

Is it paranormal kind of scary, or startling jump out of your seat scary, or this could really happen in real life scary?

What's a good movie to compare it to?

BTW, I thought the exorcist was the scariest movie ever and it gave me bad dreams for a long time.  I haven't watched it in over 20 years.  I would probably think it was a bit campy now that I'm older.

About the scariest movie I can handle is "Army of Darkness"

I have a low humor threshold and enjoyed Ash saying key lines like...

"give me some sugar baby"

"Close the door, were you born in a barn? unh, yeah you probably were"

I don't do scary movies.

I believe it's in the realm of disturbing. It is kind of like torture-based horror films (think Saw, Hostage). But from what I can tell, those films are like Disney films compared to this one... honestly I don't think I'll watch it at this point. If it can cause diehard horror flick fans to get sick at a showing, then it's probably not a film for me.

Oh no, that's awful! Yeah, I made the mistake of watching it ALONE at night in my studio apartment my senior year of college. The phone rang twice while I was watching it - nearly had a heart attack - the second call was a friend who lived in the building, inviting me to come hang out. As soon as the movie was over, I went upstairs and hung out for a looooong time! And then I had to go back to sleep in the same room as my TV...it sucked having a studio at that moment. Bothered me for a few weeks - kept thinking the TV was going to turn itelf on at any moment.

Thats why its so scary!!!! they do not rely on music, lighting, or any other fancy camera trick. If you at all believe in the potential for spirits or deamons you will freak. People in the audience were climbing over their seats to get into the rows behind them. The movie was made on an 11,000 budget nothing big, just straight scary. Sort of scatter brained and intentionally super slow to start but it picks up and will not disappoint.

x2 exorcist is the scariest movie of all time. I saw it when i was 8 my dad bet me $10 I couldnt sit through the whole thing. I won but oh man did I lose in the end. I spent the first part of the night standing in the middle of my room spinning in circles so I could see in all directions. I got dizzy and threw up, my dad had to spend the rest of the night with me. Serves him right!

After the movie me and my brother watched kung fu panda.....twice.. still only slept 2 hours while watching my cats very intently for signs of paranormal. Im such a wimp.

Um, no, this is waaaaaay off.

If I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it was a Blair Witch retelling of the Exorcist.  But that doesn't really do it justice.

This was a fantastic movie.  Very scary.

I took the wife and kids to see it today.  The kids love paranormal stuff.  They were freaked out and talking about it for hours afterward.  I didn't think it was too bad.  The "real" feel to it is what makes it very scary.

Now the fun part starts.  I get to figure out ways to freak out my kids while it's fresh in their minds.

I never thought The Exorcist was scary. I saw Poltergeist in the theater when I was like 7, and lemme tell ya, that one freaked me the eff out to the point that I couldn't watch it for years. Now it doesn't scare me, but when I was a kid, yikes.

I shall probably not see paranormal activity because I know I wont sleep after I do.

Alien was probably the scariest movie I ever saw, but I was just a kid, so that probably helped.

Disregarding that statement, I think the scariest movies are the ones that never fully show the monster/bad guy/bad mojo thing.  In fact, I remember reading an article a few weeks ago that claimed that closing your eyes during the scary parts of a film actually increases anxiety and fear.

I really want to see that movie.  It's been so hyped up though that I'll be REALLY disappointed if it doesn't scare me
