Thanks for all the input, all.

A foot tat is out of the question --- you can see the top of my feet in my pantyhose/ pumps.
and yay, I think people would see it on my wrist...

I was also considering hip ... am worried it will stretch too much when I get preggers. back is no good - I want to be able to see it !

any other ideas ?

I have a small "26.2" tattooed on the outside of my left pinky finger. I am an engineer and own an industrial construction company that requires meeting with fairly conservative people on a regular basis. Few of them even notice it or don't ask about it. Those that do, think the idea is fairly cool once they find out what it is all about.

I did IMLP earlier this year and am trying to figure out what tattoo I am going to do for that. An M-dot on the inside of the wrist has crossed my mind, but I am not sure yet.

The only advice I have is to be 100% sure before you do it.

Full disclosure, I also have a Pythagorean pentacle on my back between my shoulder blades.

I have one on my rib cage.  It's up high enough - just below the bra strap - that I don't think it would suffer from stretch mark issues.  And it's only visible to others when wearing my swim suit or if I'm running in shorts/sports bra.

Thomasski - 2009-10-30 11:50 AM I have seven and have kept them all hidden under where a short sleeved shirt would cover. Like said earlier about going to small on your wrist you will lose detail etc. over time. I do think the idea of it being on your hip or leg sounds like a better idea than the wrist. If you want to go real crazy you could get it behind your ear... thats if you wear your hair down all the time. I see these more common recently. Its just a thought.

X2 on the short sleeved shirt trick.  I have ten myself, and the only one that shows is the chainring "grease" tattoo that I have.

You should definitely go for the tattoo somewhere, tattoos on girls our super hot!  Unless it's a tramp stamp, then not so much.

Don't know if this was hit yet but its late and I'm stuffy and didn't read it all so...(slaps self on wrist).... A few of my fraternity brothers has some letters tattooed on the top of their wrist where the watch would cover it up. As long as they are wearing their watch it covers it up just fine.

Rock it down in Mexico... Hopefully they have some tequila around mile 18 to get you through the last part of the run!

Inside of the bicep.  Any short sleeve or business suit covers it.  You can see it without a mirror.  Heck, you'll see it on every stroke while swimming.  And looks HOT.

I agree with most of the others that it will still be seen on the wrist.

I have 4 tattoos, and no one can see them when I'm at work. When I'm training or racing, you can see at least 2.  That's a little tougher to pull off for a women, though, because of skirts and sleeveless tops.

If you always wear skirts below the knee, you could get one on the lower thigh.  It won't have the stretching problems of pregnancy, won't be seen at work, and will still be seen at the beach or training & racing.

The side or back of your shoulder is another good place as long as you don't wear sleeveless tops to work.  It can still be seen in a tri top.

Say "No" to Tatts!  Yuck! (This is just my opinion, so if you have a Tattoo already, no need to defend your decision).

Get the jewelery instead.  Or a car magnet.  Or shave your head in an M-dot shape.

I'm just not into permanent, man-made, permanent (I said it twice on purpose) marks on the body.  If I want to mark my body, I'll just fall of my bike (again).  Call me old fashioned.

I have a wolf head on my upper bicep.  It is fairly large and never shows from under my short sleeve shirts.  I teach 2nd grade and having it not visible is important!  So, I'd say go for the upper arm!  I can see it and it shows when I swim (or in my tri-suit) or am wearing a sleeveless shirts in the summer.

I have considered others, but they would be on the upper arm area as well...but, I have two expensive hobbies- triathlons and photography!  My bike and my camera are each worth more than my car...

I like the idea of the inside of the bicep.  You can see it while swimming or while in aero.

Get the tattoo not the jewelry.  You probably will not be wearing that when you are 90, but when the nurse at the nursing home rolls you over to change the sheets, they will see the tattoo and be like "holy cow she's an Ironman!!".

That is the best reason I have heard to get the tat. When I get to the finish line I will use this reason...Thx.

Bikini line...below what would "stretch" with prego...above thigh...how far "over" you go is up to you and hubby.
Can be covered or uncovered depending on which suit you wear (if there are mother, mother-in-law issues)...
These seem to hold up quite well. Maybe little daily sun?

Hands down the most imaginative one I ever saw was a lady who had had about an inch of hair in her...triangle...going from one side to other permanently electrolysised...from the edge to about 3/4 of the way across. Tattooed was the pink panther pushing a lawn mower through the "grass"...

Trishie - I struggle with this too.

I wanted to get one, maybe not Mdot, but, swim, bike and run characters with 140.6.

Anyhow, I can't get it anywhere it could be seen while at work, so foot, ankle, wrist, etc. are out.  I would do hip or bikini line, but then no one else would ever see it since I wear tri shorts, so I decided against it.  Artwork is meant to be shared, right?
