Subject: Is there really some good supplements for Triathlete's
Hello all.  Hope everyone is starting to get into winter training mode.  My question has most likely been posted is various areas, yet I'm seeking some current ideas.  I'm a 2nd year converting from "fat boy" to "Tri Man".  I've completed 4 sprint dist tri's and an Oly.  I've also completed 3 half marathons and 1 Full Marathon.  I'm 43yrs old, 5'10", 208lbs.  I train at least 5-days a week and currently take Centrum Silver multi, extra vit C 1000mg, extra vit D 800 iu, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) 3000mg - daily.  What is the current ideas on supplements for the progressive training multi-sport'er?  I'm signed up for HIM Florida in May and thinking about the HIM Branson later next year.  Thanks everyone for the ideas.

Based on everything you wrote and accomplished I would say none needed and keep up the good work. Supplements won't get you to where you want to go, determination will.

There are several things you can take....but you first need to figure out what you may be deficient in.  Because that can always add something in there.  You may not notice a difference from a lot of the supplements for a while and then the only way you'll know they made a damn difference is if you stop taking them.  Just make sure you are buying the highest quality and most bio-available.

ZMK, omega 3-6-9's, COQ10 are a couple not listed.

You may want to check out firstendurance...they make a full line of nutrition (including a multi-V) geared for endurance athletes.  In addition to being able to purchase their product at their website, there's a plethroa of research data and information to support their products.

fish oil.

x2, and not the sissy capsules, the real deal, hard core, cod liver oil in a bottle! I swear by it. I also take a men's multi, but if you have a very well balancxed diet, that's not as nessecary.

You may find health benefits from the recommended supplements, better performance comes down to diet and training, save your money. "You can't out-train a bad diet".

x-2, I am reading Endurance Sports Nutrition right now.  Not very far into the book, but some very key elements are pointed out.  And it's all about your diet.

Okay, I guess I am wheenie that takes the fish oil tablets.  A couple a night (1000mg pills) for that last 2 years.  Question what benefits do you believe you are getting from the fish oil (tablets or straight shots "line'em up bartender!")?

Omega 3's and other essential fats, lot's of vitamin A and D. For me, it's all about keeping my joints well lubricated and to prevent inflamation.

Thanks,  I have taken them due to heart disease being an issue in my family.  Also for the inflammation issue.  Have done some reading of the research on Fish oil.  It just seems there are some pretty outlandish claims out there that are not backed up by any research.  Great info as always, I appreciate it!

Not supplements, but I take Enduralytes from Hammer Nutrition during workouts that last longer than an hour. I like not cramping...

So is a sub 9hr Kona finish. It might be worth a try.

Cod liver out of a bottle is worse than water boarding, in fact the CIA should use that as a healthy means of torture!

I'm not sure if it matters in terms of absorption, but it may be better to take fish oil pills later in the day simply because fishy smelling burps at 9am can be an unwelcome surprise. Otherwise, I really like fish oil, and still take One A Day Men's multivitamin.

I haven't tried 'em yet, but am planning on stepping it up to something more athlete specific with First Endurance's Multi V. I've heard good things. Must be something to it.  (Oh, and they just sponsored me, so getting a deal on it is good motivation too)

:-)
