I thought I posted this yesterday, but I can't find it, so I must have screwed something up.  Can someone tell me what will happen if it rains (they can't make up their minds) on Sat at Woodstock?  Is lightening the only factor that will cancel?  Will they do just bike/run?

Thanks,
Cindy

Last year I did the Barrie tri, and it didn't start lightning until we were out of the water, but it stormed like crazy for the whole race - huge lightning bolts hitting that big TV tower in Barrie - and they didn't stop the race. I don't know what would have happened if the lightning had started before the swim, though. It started raining during the swim, btw. So, I'm not sure what the official policy is, but there have definitely been races done in torrential rainstorms.

Lightening wil delay the race (safety issue),  but if its just raining, well worst that will happen is that you'll get wet. But there is a good chance you'll get wet during the swim regardles of weather.

In my opinion the only issue with racing in the rain is on the bike - the roads get slick, visibility is lower, brakes don't work as well, etc.  You really have to bike extra caefully.  I think the run is better in the rain - it keeps me cooler.

I did my first tri in the rain at Guelph Lake last year.  While racing I really didn't even notice the weather (although I was very careful on the bike leg).  I think I would prefer the rain to a really hot day!

Me too.  I wore my sunglasses even though it was dark on the bike ride  to keep it out of my eyes.  And the only other thing I did was keep my stuff in plastic bags in transition to keep it dry before that leg of the race but after, well, who cares? everything was already wet anyway!

Best of luck this weekend!

a ball cap on the ride and run is helpful to keep the rain out of your face!
