Comments:

Was having a great swim before the cramping hit. Sighting and navigation were good. Breathing was awesome and I was on pace to finish in about 40 minutes which would have been a PB by 7 minutes... then the f-ing cramps.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know yet, but I am going to find out.

Event comments:

Definitely wondering if my week before the race played a role in my performance. Two night shifts two days before the race. Up for 40hrs straight before the race and then only slept for 3-4hrs on the night before the race. My nutrition wasn't great throughout the week, too much sugar and peanut butter, not enough veggies, meat, and whole grains. I think I was fairly hydrated for most of the week though...

Performance: Bad
Entered the water seeded about where I thought I should be. Must have been pretty good as I didn't have to fight through many feet and arms. I tried to keep to the outside for most of the time to avoid other swimmers. The course was two laps of 1000m. Felt really good for most of the first lap. Felt my hamstring start to tighten a little at around 600m, but managed to relax and continue on. Started to get a little dizzy and nauseous at around 800m. Was a little wobbly on the short run between laps. Started the second lap with no issues. At about 500m I felt my calf tighten and was able to relax. At 700m it happened again. When I tried to stretch it out, my left quad tightened and cramped followed by my hamstring. The my right side as well. Had to call for the boat and that was the end of the race for me.

The cramping is tragic. Maybe it was the cold water.
