1) it always takes more time than you think it will.
2) you must have reserved day-of packet pick up with CGI events... see the most recent email they sent out.  If you don't do that (and they are charging $10) you must pick up on Saturday.
3) plan on standing in line for that on Sunday morning.

IMHO, especially since this is your first... you'd much rather have some exta time and just chill out in your car, then be short on time and worrying about how you need to visit the porti-potti but don't have time before your swim wave starts.

packet pickup
body marking
transition setup
porti-potti line

can take longer than you can imagine.  Be there early.

jaferg52 - 2010-08-10 10:11 AM Hey all. I am not going to be racing this weekend. My grandfather passed away this morning and I will in Va for services. Have fun and race hard everyone!

condolences to you and your family.

I tried my wetsuit on tonight for the first time this season (I did soak it a few times). After 20 minutes (I timed it), I still didn't have the bottom half up high enough to be able to attempt to put the top half on. Ugh. That said...I am really hoping this race is not wetsuit legal.

Definitely won't be if you want to be eligible for awards (78), but I'm guessing they'll find some 83.9 degree water.

Although, who knows what the MAJOR rain we had today will do to the NE river water temps.

Thanks! I know nothing about this river. I wasn't sure if the unusually cold waters in the Atlantic right now would have any effect on the water temp of the NE River. I'm just hoping it will be 78.1F or higher. (Although, I realize I am probably the only person hoping for a non-wetsuit race.)

The river is basically the very top of the Chesapeake bay... definitely not what you think of when you think river (constant flow downstream, etc).  But I suspect that the volume of rain we had the other day could have an impact on temperature.  The closest buoy I can find that records water temp currently lists the temp nearby at 83.3 (this is the buoy for Chesapeake City, which is on the C&D canal connecting the NorthEast river to the Delaware Bay).

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=chcm2

My totally unofficial position is that you have no worries of the temps being under 78.

Unfortunately, I can't race on Sunday due to some family stuff... nothing serious, just logistical.  Sucks nonetheless.  I was really looking forward to meeting many of you at the tent.  I hope you all have an awesome race.  Have fun, be safe.

I'll be racing too and had planned to bring along my husband and three young kids but the kids were sick this week (and gave me strep- thank goodness for antibiotics, but very ironic as I did CGI's NJ State Tri last year on antibiotics from strep too...maybe I should stop signing up for CGI races??) so we decided to scrap the family trip and I will be there on my own. I'd love to meet up with some BTers so I will look for the tent afterwards. If there is something I can bring, let me know. Looking forward to it!

We're down to 82.0. It dropped 1.3 in the past 23 hrs. I guess it's unlikely it will drop 3.9 in the next 24 hrs. Not sure why I am so concerned about this as it's not like I stand a chance at placing and need to be concerned about those few mins saved with a wetsuit -- just don't want all my competition in wetsuits when I am not .

It looks like the weather is going to cooperate for this weekend - whew!  It might get a little toasty on the run, but shouldn't be too bad.  My guess is that it won't be any worse than it has been on some morning runs lately.

FWIW, I'm glad it will most likely be a non-wetsuit swim as well.  I really don't like my wetsuit and think I'll have a better time without it.

I'll try to find everyone after the race to say hello.  I hope everyone has a good pre-race Saturday!

How do they determine who wears one when it comes to AG placing?  Do you get put in a special wave if you wear your suit between 78 and 84?

I don't think there's a special wave; I think thet put someone on the dock who gets the bib number of anyone in a wet suit.Josh, what bib are you? Any idea where the tent will be pitched?

I was looking for everyone after the race yesterday, but wasn't able to locate you guys. Where were you set up?

I thought the race was awesome. It was my first tri and I thought it was extremely well organized. I had a blast and didn't puke or anything (LMAO).

I did have terrible nerves heading into my first OWS competition and had the whole tight chest/ shortness of breath thing everyone talks about. I just started swimming in April and it's not my strong suit anyhow, so that just added to the anxiety. I was slow, but I got through it and think I put up respectable transition times for a first timer T1-3:54 and T2 1:43.( Boy that's a pretty long run to T1 and I was at the far end of the transition area.) Overall I finished 11/16 in the Sprint Clydes ( but only finished 20 seconds from finishing 9/16 in the group

Anyway I thought the race was great. I'm hooked will be doing more. I'm really sorry I wasn't able to find you guys and introduce myself though.

We were in an unmarked tent right along the finish chute (by all the other tents).  Ours was distinguishable as the one without the grill!!!  Stupid unreliable MD BTer to blame for that (though he did manage to get 6 burgers at the food tent to make up for it).

We had a small crowd most of the day, with various BTers stopping by.  I saw a guy in the port-a-potti line with a BT shirt on (who I never saw the rest of the day), but I was in serious Scamp mode and didn't chat it up since I was next in line

Congrats to Joe for 1st AG and Joe's friend whose name I forget (I'm terrible with names so sorry) for a second AG (at her first tri).  Also congrats to Joe for a recent engagement which he was stealthy about on the logs since I missed the announcement, and to Jason for finishing his second tri and first oly.  I don't know how others did, but I hope you'll chime in here for a report.

I had a good race with a PR in both the tri (was technically my first official Oly race) and the 10K split.

And in case you were wondering, Joe kicked my butt in our little gentleman's bet.  Apparently I owe him a pair of cool-weather running gloves, which he usually starts wearing when the daytime high drops below 80.

I didnt find anyone either. WIth as many BTers in the event I would have thought I would have found someone! I ended up just hanging out at Chesapeake Cycle's tent which was along the finish line too. Since Perryville ended up a duathlon this was my first official tri (Sprint). I came in 2nd place for my age group (35-39) and 39th overall so I was pumped. My sighting on the swim was terrible. I probably swam a mile all said and done! I am scheduled for the Nations Tri this Sept so maybe I will bump into some of you guys there.

Congrats to all who partcipated.

Same, I looked for ya'll with the other tents like Team In Training...but no luck.

All in all it was a good but tough little Sprint.  The hills seems to really burn after 7 miles or so, but was probably my own fault for hammering the earlier ones.  The run was hard on me also due to the incline on the side of the road, my knee's were not happy at all afterwards.

I couldn't find anyone either.  I did wall past the tents but never spotted the BTers.  I did see the guy in the porta potty line wearing the BT shirt.

I thought it was a great event, very well organized!  I had a great swim, my favorite event.  The water was perfect - good temp and nice and calm.  I thought the course was well marked.  Between sighting the buoys and the kayaks, I was able to swim in a straight line.  The run to transition was a bit long, but not too bad.  The bike course was ok.   I was hoping for a few more flat stretches, but survived the "rolling" hills.  I enjoyed the run.  Finished first in my age group (older women).

Congrats to all who raced!  Sorry I didn't get to see everyone.
