I'm confused - Am I Jseirgsdsdsdfsssss?

I'm signed up for the Olympic.  I'm trying to convince my roommate to do the sprint.   He's scared of OWSing though.

Can anyone provide any info about the swim, bike and run?  Are the bike and run courses hilly?  Any idea what the water temps will be that time of year?  I'm doing the Olympic.  This will be my first CGI race.

I'm in for the Sprint. This will be my first ever Tri. I chose this race because a) it's smaller and b) because I grew up in North East. It's always good to go home.

I plan on doing the Olympic again this year.   Did it last year and trotpntbll is correct with his description.  The water was in the 80s and you could not wear wetsuits.  Bike and run courses are both rolling.  Run is an out and back.  Not much shade.

Don't forget the stink of dead animals on the side of the road. I think the swim was rolling also.
It was a fun race though.

Local Knowledge-- The NE River will be surely be bath water warm ( high 70's into the 80's) come mid August.
Long flat hills on the Run which are not too bad, I pre-ran the Sprint course a few weeks back in what I consider a fast time for me and I wasn't really pushing at all. Of course I run all hills where I currently live.
Some of the same long flat hills to start out on the bike course, however there are some shorter steeper hills mixed in also once you get off of Rt. 272.  Last couple of miles or so of both Oly and Sprint bike course is almost all down hill.
Afterwards, try the Paradise Grille or Woody's , both on Main Street for your after race dining and (adult) beverages.

I did the sprint in 2008. The ride is unrelenting rollers; nothing very steep but I don't remember any of it being flat. I actually enjoyed it a lot. The run was basically an out and back, uphill out/downhill back, lots of hot sun. I haven't looked to see if Amy of the routes have been changed.I wasn't planning to do this this year but I might be recruited to be the swimmer for a relay team. I am thinking about it for next year as my first Oly

I mapped the Sprint courses on USATF website, run and bike are as follow respectively, you can click on the bottom of the map to get the elevation.profiles

Sorry , I guess "flat" is a relative term depending on what you are used to training on. These are "flat" to me. Some of the elevation profile on my home training courses look like a heart beat monitor as there are so many ups and downs.

I'm also in for the Oly. Did the NJ State Tri (Olympic) last year and thought CGI put on a good race but not up for driving that far again this year (we live near DC) so thought this looked like a good one to do instead. Looking forward to it- my husband and three young kids are coming, and they've never seen me race (in a tri, at least) before so very excited to have them there. After Eagleman earlier this month, actually looking forward to a course that has some rollers in it and not sure anything can really compare to that heat, although not about to tempt fate by saying that nothing could be worse than the EM heat/humidity!

I'd love to swim the course before the race.  Is swimming "allowed" in the NE River or is it "swim at your own risk"?

its "swim at your own risk". Signs posted on the town docks say 'no swimming'. Then again who's to stop you from walking to the restaurant or marina right next door and jumping in off their dock.
For the sprint , the best I can tell from the CGI swim course map is that you'd need to go out from the town dock go out to about the green post bouy and then back in at the canoe/ kayak entrance  at the other end of the park. If you zoom in the satellite pic  in the below link you can see that post bouy right off the south edge of the first turn on the swim course.

I agree with trynguy. I have been swimming in either the Susquehanna River north of the dam or in the North East River off Sandy Cove area. I havent been stopped yet but I also go very early in the morning to avoid drunken boaters and the eye of the "man". They are more vigilant around Perryville and Havre De Grace with swimmers.

I have been focusing on the Perryville Bike and run course at the moment but after July 10th will want to focus on the Northeast course.

I see you are in West Grove. There is a group out of the Jennersville YMCA I have been training with lately. If you are interested I can send you the group info.

That would be fantastic... I'm only about 4 mi from there.  Much appreciated!  I typically do my long ride on the weekend by myself, but would love to meet up with a group.  I have a 35 mile loop I do that goes past Jennersville Y, through Oxford, up past the Octararo Resevoir and then cuts back to 896.  It's a pretty nice ride.
