Overall Rank = 15/220
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 1/14
Pre-race routine:

Cliff bar, coffee, one 24 oz Gatorade, multivitamin, green tea capsule. (I forgot to take my Endurolytes and Endurox excel)
Event warmup:

ran 10 min, swam 10 min and streched
Swim
  • 11m 25s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swimming is getting better, but still it is my weakest sport.
What would you do differently?:

I definitely need to practice OW swims in pack and drafting
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

nice transition. I always take my time getting out of the water
Bike
  • 41m 38s
  • 15 miles
  • 21.62 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike is improving but I need to work work work even more. I feel a bit stronger and faster but I still suffer when I am hammering the pedals and I am afraid it is affecting a bit my running performance. I am not complaining about my running speed, I think it is great! I am just a bit concerned about my 1st ½ iron distance. I am wondering if I will be able to maintain a steady strong pace on the bike and it won’t eventually hurt me on the run…
I took an accelerade gel 25 min into the bike.

What would you do differently?:

Train more and bring my endurolyes
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

I guess I could attempt to do a better job for my T2 next time.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe do it a bit faster
Run
  • 30m 16s
  • 5 miles
  • 06m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

I forgot my Cytomax bottle so that sucked! Also now that I am checking y HR data I should had pushed it a bit to avg HR between 176-178. I must say I felts my legs heavy from the hard pedaling I did on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

streching, drink lots of fluids and ate carbs

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This wasn't a priority race so I didn't really prepare for it in terms of tapering and specific training Saturday I did a Long bike ride of 55+ miles, with 1 hr HIM pace (Zone 3 effort). I definitely felt my legs tired during the bike leg of the race. I also could tell my legs weren’t 100% because my HR was higher than normal.

I hope I don’t come across as those cocky athletes: “oh I didn’t train for this race but I still I won and bla bla bla…”
I do train my a$$ of every week for 10 or more hours. However I need to keep this log/race reports as objective and real as possible for my coach’s training plan and for my own personal info.

Event comments:

I want to participate in this race because one year ago, this same race was my 1st Tri EVER! My time last year was 1:37:38; Age group place was 7th and 67th overall... I improved my time by 12:19 min - NICE IMPROVEMENT!
Another fun fact - they placed my on the wrong wave by mistake so at the end while checking the final results my swimming time was 5:25... Yeah right! This was because they took 6 min off from the wave of my age group. I talked to the race director and they fix it by adding those 6 min and placing me with the right time. I could of place 3rd overall with that mistake and fool everyone but myself… That’s not why I race after all…
I am very HAPPY with the “Cheap” medal that I won and for me it is worth like a GOLD Olympic medal :)
