Looks like Red Rock will email everyone already registered in the next 24 hrs but it looks like run-bike-run for SOMA at least.  Throw that extra run training in

Just read on redrock's site that they changed them to DU's

2010 Nathan Tempe Duathlon (DAM BROKE - NO LAKE!)
Sponsored by Nathan Hydration Systems

September 26, 2010
Olympic / Sprint Duathlon and Relay

INTRODUCTION
Red Rock proudly announces the Fifth year of the Nathan Tempe Triathlon.  Come out in compete in either the Olympic, Sprint or Relay (Olympic AND Sprint) race.  Since the dam broke we will not have a swim this year.   We will be hosting a duathlon with a run-bike-run format.  The runs will take place along side the gorgeous mud pit that was Tempe Town Lake, followed by the best Olympic bike course in Tempe, and a run along the multi-use path around the lake...ummm pit.

All participants start at Tempe Beach Park, on the south bank, just west of the Mill Avenue Bridge.

Notes on the Course - The bike portion is a relatively flat, urban, looped course; each loop is approximately 12.3 miles.  The run is a 3.1 mile loop around Tempe Town Lake with some great views of ASU and the developing landscape of Tempe!  Olympic distance athletes must complete 2 loops of the bike and 2 loops of the run course respectively.

this was going to be my first tri too so i'm pretty bummed. went down last night to check it out and it's pretty interesting to see it with only about 3ft of water!

So for the PBR du, can we ride our mountain bikes at the bottom of Tempe Town Lake? That would be awesome!

I got the email this weekend that Soma is now officially a duathlon!  I'm sort of excited (swimming is my weakest link) but I may be the only one who is excited about this!  There is an option to race this as a duathlon or defer to 2011 and get 50% off of the entry.

Red Rock can't help it that the dam broke...so I am just glad they are going ahead and having an event regardless!  We are flying in from NC and already have our plane tickets purchased so we are going race the duathlon and have a blast regardless.

Does this mean I don't have to swim for the rest of the summer??

Red Rock has had a bad go of it for no fault of their own. I did the Las Palomas in Rocky Point and they did a great job. The dam collapse isn't their doing. They just have to deal with it. That being said, I', glad that I didn't register for Nathan's or SOMA yet. My run is my weakest thing right now and doing more of it isn't my thing right now. I'm going to pick up a few sprints in the fall and prepare for PF Changs 1/2 Mary in 2011.

Too bad this happened to a great event organization group.
