Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:15 a.m., ate cereal w/ half banana. Put on my NEW Team Javelin uniform, and got the car loaded up. My friend Rena spent the night w/ me, so we got up together. Barry (my boyfriend) also came.
Event warmup:

Walked friggin' 1/2 mile to get to transition area from where we had to park. Got 20 mosquito bites from these nasty bugs there. Set up transition area, which was very muddy.
Swim

  • 400 yards
  • 04m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Time is rather long because it included the 1/2 mile we had to run to transition. We even had to run through a tunnel that went UNDER the road and through the park. Ridiculous! Ran over some pebbles and sticks in T1 that really hurt.
What would you do differently?:

Not do this race again.
Transition 1

Comments:

Transition sucked. I knew I was going to have problems with the muddy dirt!! I put on my bike shoes and ran w/ my bike to the road. Of course, the dirt was impacted underneath my shoe and was preventing it from clipping in! I started panicking and eventually, several minutes later- I got the shoes clipped in. Everyone was passing me and I was like oh crap!! Bike time would have been much better had it not been for this. Need to learn how to get into shoes that are clipped into the bike!!

Comments:

Don't know why I grabbed my sunglasses and visor, as the run was through a shaded park. Would have saved some time without getting that.

Event comments:

I did not like this race at all. I should have listened to Sharon (snikpos) and ditched this race. The original distance was supposed to be a 1/4 mi swim, 14.2 mi bike, 2.6 mi. run. However, they shortened it significantly due to construction. Yeah right! It was disorganized, and in a poor, poor location. Bad planning on their part. Food was great afterwards. I think I took 10 lbs. of fruit and snack bars, smoothies, etc. All in all, a fun race b/c I did it with my friend, but the race itself sucked.

Sorry you had a bad experience, I got to run through some gravel/sticks/junk myself so I sure can sympathize.

Great job regardless!

If you can swim those choppy waters, you can swim anything! Every other OW swim will seem easy in comparison.

You are getting speedy, Young Lady! Sorry you had a sucky time, but your times are looking very good!

Hey Lisa, sorry you had such a bad experience, this is my daughter's favorite race of the season! I can't believe we didn't see you. My daughter was sportin' her Team Javelin suit also. She did this race last year, so we knew about the long run to transition and put an extra pair of shoes at the beach entrance to the tunnel for her.

This race has been billed as the South Florida Super Sprint for several years. The bike is usually 10 miles but they had to shorten it due to construction. They said it was 9 miles, but your race report said 8 miles. Did you get that from your bike computer? The run has always been just under 2 miles, so I was surprised when they originaly listed it as 2.6 miles. It is also usually a trail run, but since there has been so much rain they were unable to use most of the trails, so they went with the loop. That made the run slightly shorter than last year but I believe the swim conditions more than made up for that! The fastest age group time was about two minutes slower this year than last, even with the shortened bike and run!

OMG Lisa!!  That swim would have done me in!!   Way to stick with it girly!!

I had the same problem with my shoes at Danskin--never did get clipped in! Rode the entire race unclipped!!

GREAT job on the run!! Way to show that finish line who was in charge!!

Lisa, sorry you had such a bad experience with the race.  After doing St. Anthony's, nothing else measures up.  But, you got through it and had fun, that's what really counts.

Hey Lisa!

Great work despite all the annoyances!! That sucks about the location.

Did the mosquitoes make you run faster?   Glad you got some good food out of it anyway!

A weaker person (me  ) would've said "to hell with it", especially after being mauled by the mosquitos!  Sorry the event sucked, but you hung in there!  you're that much stronger for the next one.
