Cazenovia Triathlon
70F / 21C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 15m 16s
Overall Rank = 6/29
Age Group = open/elite
Age Group Rank = 6/29
Event warmup:

20 min bike
15 min run
10 min swim

first time warming up for a tri...I will do this routine for Oly and under from now on.
Swim
  • 15m 23s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was slow for everyone, which I think had more to do with the chop then being long. Everyone was 2-3 minutes slower then expected and based off last years time.

also, my swim time inlcudes T1.
What would you do differently?:

find a draft
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 included in swim.

good T1
Bike
  • 37m 52s
  • 14 miles
  • 22.18 mile/hr
Comments:

good bike, but I lost significant time on a downhill, where I had to go into the grass because I couldn't handle the turn.

awful mistake, lost all momentum and csot me a minute easy. went from 30+ MPH to around 1, into the grass, then had to build speed back up....

What would you do differently?:

not be an idiot at that downhill turn that I knew was coming
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Run
  • 21m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

ahhhh...the demise of every race it seems. The run.

It's not a pacing issue, as my runs are right were my fitness would indicate. I just need to be a better runner. 1-2 minutes faster, which would still not be fast, would get me right where I need to be.

running is my weakness for sure.

If my biking and swimming stayed the same, but I became a better runner, I'd be a better triathlete.

In fact, I could even lose some on the bike as long as I became a better runner.

I/my coach think it is a few things:
-biomechanics
-weight
-more run training
What would you do differently?:

run more in training
Post race
Warm down:

pizza, cookies, choclate milk. figure I'd get a jump start on that weight issue holding me back on the run. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

3 weeks of no structured training and an IM 3 weeks ago.

Event comments:

good race put on by my tri club. I entered the Elite wave this year, and did OK. I am capable of better where I am at today, just wasn't able to bring my A game due to obvious reasons.

All in all, a good day and a great race!

Nice race!  I'm constantly amazed at how far you've come in such a short period of time.  And with an attitude of class the whole way.  Bravo!!!!!

"Become a better runner" ... I think this is on 99% of all Triathletes priority list.   Hey, you raced to what your fitness is.  Aside from Lance moment in the grass, it sounds like you had a Solid Race.  And don't forget, all your training this year was based on being fast at the Ironman Distance, not the Sprint (5k road race) distance.  Stop being so hard on yourself Cuse.  You had a great race.  Congrats on competing in the Elite Wave and doing OK.  Doing OK in the Elite Wave is PHENOMENAL!!
