Onurmark
80'sF / 0C
Overcast
Total Time = 3h 24m 38s
Overall Rank = 472/1000?
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 17/22
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:45, stretched, ate breakfast and out the door by 4:30. Got to transition just as it opened. Nice set up with lots of lighting. Did not need my flashlight this time.

Set up, walked over to swim start at the lake. Nice set up. Onurmark makes each race better and better.
Event warmup:

Stretched. Jumped in the lake briefly to get wet and test out the water. Kind of regretted that when I got out. There was a breeze and it was a little cool. Nice! Cool front came through with cooler/dryer air just in time!
Swim
  • 40m 30s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not really pleased with my time.....slowest pace to date for an open water swim. This was my first Oly so it was longest swim for me. There was LOTS of contact today....kind of a slugfest with lots of swimmers on the course given the 2 lap set up. That goes with this so deal with it. Water was just right...not too warm, not too cool.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Maybe get more long swims in before my next Oly in 2011.
Transition 1
  • 06m 55s
Comments:

Long transition time given the very long distance from the lake to transition.
What would you do differently?:

This transition is my most difficult one.....so many things to do. Not sure how to streamline it. It is difficult to compare to past T1 times given the time required to get from the lake to transition. But I was near the bottom of the pack for my AG, so improvement is needed.
Bike
  • 1h 26m 46s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Held back and managed HR zones more this time vs. Bridgeland. Wanted to save more for the run. Riding with the wind on southbound segments was a blast.....some of my top speeds ever.
What would you do differently?:

Bike training took a big hit in last month or so due to time constraints and ongoing issues with bike fit. Definitely need to evaluate fit over the winter before next year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

305 Multisport Mode worked as designed this time. Amazing what happens when you read the manual and practice.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 1h 09m 2s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt great until mile 4. Sun had come out just as I started the run It got a bit warm vs. the bike where it was overcast for most of that segment.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training and get more miles in. Half marathon training this winter will help.
Post race
Warm down:

Pushed hard into the finish and really was spent.....went to find a chair in the shade since the line for the food was very long.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just need to run more miles.

Event comments:

Great race and well organized, especially for its first year. Onurmark did a great job again. All the volunteers were great too....lots of cheering at each station. Traffic management was excellent and needed given the high traffic areas that the course went through.

nothing like full contact swimming in your first olympic.  2 laps for the swim sounds brutal and crowded.  Congrats on your first Olympic.

Great job on a wonderful accomplishement.  Personally I think olympics are harder than halves.  It is a long time to go full out and know the where the edge of the knife is.  You should be very proud.

Are you looking forward in doing more Olympics? If so, then you had a lot of fun, despite the little issues. You can only get better!!
