I think that will be my deciding factor in whether I sign up or not.RGonzalez - 2010-10-31 2:01 AM Wow! What a mess.. Ironman posted on facebook this afternoon to congratulate the race winners. What followed was a whole lot of angry replies. Seems they ran out of water in the run and didn't even have water in the bike. Being from Miami I know what it's like to deal with local drivers, a few people commented that they were being screamed at in the middle of the street. Apparently the bike path even passed by the front of a firehouse which presented some dangerous situations every time one of the trucks had to go out on a call. Seeing this makes me nervous about my first planned Olympic distance triathlon in March, the first race in the new 5150 series. Not only am I a bit hesitant in coughing up the extra money for the race, but safety concerns as well. I posted some pictures in my blog, too bad the race didn't turn out better since it was such a beautiful day to race. I hope to see some sort of press release from them in regards to todays race. I would love to hear from anyone who raced today, how did your day go? Don't let this race discourage you fom doing the March race. It's the Miami International race and it has been a great race in the past and I hope it won't be much diffrerent. Is the same RD...and...He has done a good job with M.I.T.....but....I think He doesn't have enough experience to run a 1/2 Ironman and managed more than 2000 triathletes.... like MultiRace...that...have been in this business for many years....Just saying....!!!
just so you know MIT will have the same exact route as Miami 70.3 going forward. WTH...??? NO more Key Biscayne...???? NO WAY...!!!! It will be other mess... WHY??? They were doing a great Job at Key Biscayne....!!!
new site is up, course is same as Miami 70.3 check it out. $165 a pop... |

They're just as happy as the athletes. WOW....!!!!! Among the injured was multiple triathlon winner John Reback of Jupiter. ``During the turn around on the bike, I slammed my shoulder into another racer. I felt my shoulder separate [from the joint],'' Reback said. The only thing he could think of was finishing. He kept ``plugging along'' to a first-place finish in men's 40-44 division. Master 1795 Boynton Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami Total disaster is all I can say. Please take me back in 2011 Miami Man! MIT was a great race and would like to do again, but I am really staying away until I hear more about new course etc. Amen to other comments about local race directors, I have always had great experiences at other races. This was the most costly and worse run race I have even done. Now site is down and can't even get results so I can fill out my race report and rip them again in my race report. On a positive note, I am now more familiar with the one bridge we ran up and down 8 times. Seriously? You have all of Miami Beach, downtown area, key biscayne etc all close by and best you can come up with is that Bridge and the back alleys of Bayside? Sorry, this one has a lot of people fired up for good reason. I am just thankful I am local and didn't spend the money so many others did to travel to this race. |

I feel very Sorry for you and for everybody for this bad experience...and... Glad to hear You are back to the Miami Man next year....LOL It's nice to recognize/admit that MultiRace does a great job...very well organized Races....and....We need to be more supportive with our local Races....Thanks Cardenas...!!!! Also It's sad to hear that M.I.T. won't be as usual at Key Biscayne....I can recognize that they usually run that Race very well...I like that Race...I have raced the M.I.T. 3 times... since they started...It was an excellent venue. Oh Well...We will have to wait what they decide....but....If they plan to do it in the same Ironman Miami 70.3 Course... NO WAY...I won't race it....a very danger Bike Course....and....for sure...they will make us run over the bridge 4 times....LOL

Expert 838 West Palm Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami The folks who RD'd this race were first timers at this distance, I believe, and first timers on that site and course. I've done a bunch of olis with them and 3 out of 4 times they ran out of water on the run. Support was poor, their expos were poor, swag was poor. Nice guys, but it doesn't sound like they were up to the task. I think Ironman wanted a race in Miami real bad, and when the MiamiMan folks wouldn't re-brand their race Ironman looked for anyone else who could do the job so they could get a Miami race on the schedule. |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami sadly, it shouldn't HAVE to be made right...it shouldn't have gotten that bad to begin with. I don't care that they subcontract out the duties locally, but how in the world is SOMEONE from WTC/Ironman not involved in some small way on site to ensure that their name/brand is taken care of? Putting on an event of that magnitude shouldn't involve WTC simply signing over their logos and collecting a check. |

Master 1920 Ann Arbor, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami Wow. They really are taking all of this bad press seriously! I wonder if something like this would've happened a few years back- before facebook/twitter took hold. Social media has certainly proved it's power- not once, but twice this week alone! Regular 116 Miami | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami Given that I didn't race and live locally, all I lost that day was some sleep. But I think allowing competitors to choose one of 19 different races next year says they are at least listening. I would like to think, and hope I am right, that they learned their lesson from Miami 70.3 and will work VERY hard to avoid it happening again. They know they can't afford another critical mistake. I truly believe they will be bounce back and take much better care of the brand. |

Elite 3315 Miami | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami here is the letter I got: Thank you. Those two words convey an act of sincere appreciation that covers both the good and the regretful. In talking about the good, I want to personally thank you for being part of Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami. Without you, nothing would have happen and nothing would have mattered. Therefore, I am eternally grateful for your presence and participation. I also want to thank you for the patience that you showed during moments borne out of logistics misunderstandings and gaffes. As the race director I am deeply aware of all the issues, shortcomings and seemingly insurmountable logistical obstacles that participants like you encountered during the race. Considering the amount of time and money that you invested into training for this race, I am regretfully sorry for all the adversities that you endured. In closing, I’d like to ask you for your input. I’m convinced that your constructive criticism and ideas, combined with my observations and that of my staff, will make our second running of Ironman 70.3 Miami 2011 the world class event that you have come to expect from any IRONMAN-branded product. You can reach us via e-mail, at [email protected]. Your comments will be highly regarded and proactively approached within our race debrief. I look forward to hearing from you. Once again, thank you. In all senses of the expression. Sincerely, I posted this on ST also. |
