I'm checking your logs tomorrow and  looking for a pink square!

If it makes you feel any better I'm losing my motivation for completing the entire 1/2 IM also. The long runs are tearing up my ankles. I'm thinking about changing the plan a little to break up the long runs and build up to those more slowly. Either that or just bag the run and do an aqua bike. All I know is my ankles and feet don't appreciate the pounding!

Your 'threat' worked...I have a (little) pink square.  I know how you feel about the HIM burnout.  I'd take a few days off and rest up the sore places.

running injuries seem to be the bane of my life at the moment. First the sore sole of foot for 2 weeks. got over that and completed circa 24kms in a 3 day period all fine. did a run last friday night and got what felt like a stitch in my hip that turned into a very painful muscle / joint. can still feel it now and concerned if i plough on it will cause greater pain. cancelled first sprint race of season on sunday just gone because of it.

are there any good hip stretches that can be done

I'm with you.  Each long run less fun than the last.  Almost sorry I signed up for the 1/2 mary in March.  Just hoping to get through it and go back to focusing on shorter distances.

Heeeelllp   Meeeeeee!!

I've completely lost my motivation.?

Blame it on the crappy Idaho weather, job demands, single-parenthood, family issues, personal relationship issues...WHATEVER.  I need to HTFU and get going, and SOON!

Rant Over-Carry On!

Haha, deep breath. Don't sweat it too much. Some days are easy and some days are just horrible. (Getting up at 4:30 this morning to drive to the pool comes to mind...) You just have to get through it

Pains or actual PAIN? You never want to train through a possible injury, but if it just hurts some... well... ya know

Have you considered Aqua Jogging in place of some of your easier runs? It's a lot less impact damage and should still get you the benefit. As should walking at a moderate pace at a big incline on a treadmill. I've used both those methods successfully in the past.

Sorry to hear it Mac! Canceling a race is a tough thing to do.

Some of the best stretches to do are listed here, and in addition I'd suggest getting a foam roller if you don't have one. It was a great investment for me! (A Tennis ball will do as well!)

I'm keeping a close eye on it. I had some ART a couple of weeks ago and both my ankles felt great after that. Did a harder run followed two days later by my longest run of the year and the soreness came back. I'm trying to take care of it on my own for now since this is a recovery week but I'll go back for more ART if I have to. Part of the problem is my previous history of running injuries (9 months of no running due to PF, and a torn tendon in my ankle). It's just not worth it to me to force my body into doing something it obviously does not like to do!

I have used Aqua Jogging in the past for running injuries and will definitely keep that in mind. Especially during the run specific week of the plan!

hey gang! Damn it feels to good to be back at training. Yes, i know my logs are empty, but i'm working out. I promise! Went to spin class last night and ran 3miles afterwards. Swam 2,000meters tonight. Took a few laps to get back into it, but it felt great. Nautica is less than 3 weeks away, but i feel i should be able to do come out with a decent time.

Looking into the future for my full IM. Can anyone recommend a  training plan?

Hi everyone,

Been a while since I posted, but I am still alive and training. Got nominated for some awards and other stuff, so that took up the little time I had left out of my day and slowed down training a little. I will start to post back up into logs asap. Currently tdy right now, so I'm limited to running only. Looks like my racing events are changing a bit as well due to work. First race is looking to be in either may or june

Good luck at the Nautica! Make sure we get a race report!

As far as an IM plan goes... I used the Free one (I think... it might have been a bronze plan) (beginner) on this site. Although it says beginner (and there is an Intermediate one) Mike Ricci (who is credited to making both, though he says he only made the beginner plan) assured me the beginner plan was much better set up... which after looking at both myself, I would have to agree with.

I now own a bike!!!  Weather and time permitting maybe I can actually ride OUTSIDE here some time soon!  And I have a running coach.....A running Yogini...  I like her, and think it will be a good decision.  Finished the 12 week base building/fittness program through Lifetime last week.  VO2Max went up from 35 in December. to 40 last Monday.

Now trying to sort out what an actual 8 week training program should look like to get ready for Olympic Tri in Austin on May 30 so I can get started....Recommendations?

Well folks, another weekend has come to an end. I can say that i was able to train for the last 5 days. Got in a great workout today with my Sunday training team at the beach. Sprint Distance is what we do on Sundays. Felt soooooo good to be back in the Ocean. My fitness has much improved in the few weeks, and MAN does it feel good!. This week will be tough though. Wedding is this weekend and people start coming into town on Thursday morning. I do plan to do a Pre-wedding run on the beach with my family. Can't wait! I'll be sure to post photos up.

Hope every had a good weekend, and weather is starting to warm up around you all.

Yes congrats on the bike! What kind did you go for?

There are a couple of the BT plans for olympics that are not bad. Also I've heard great things about endurance nations plans, but they are a bit pricier.

Orbea Onix Dama... Still too cold for me to go out and ride, though.....maybe the weekend, fingers crossed.

BT at what level? I don't really mind paying for a plan, but the more specific direction I have the better I'll do....
