That sounds awful. Has it happened before?

Be careful!

I now own a bike!!!

Now trying to sort out what an actual 8 week training program should look like to get ready for Olympic Tri in Austin on May 30 so I can get started....Recommendations?

Yes congrats on the bike! What kind did you go for?

There are a couple of the BT plans for olympics that are not bad. Also I've heard great things about endurance nations plans, but they are a bit pricier.

Orbea Onix Dama... Still too cold for me to go out and ride, though.....maybe the weekend, fingers crossed.

BT at what level? I don't really mind paying for a plan, but the more specific direction I have the better I'll do....

My first year I remember doing the free Oly plan, although I am not sure how many weeks it was (it was a while ago )

I like the Dama, it gets good reviews too! Great choice.

Nice bike Wendy! Have fun riding.

I have not used a BT OLY plan but there are several threads in the beginner triathlete group training thread that may be helpful for you:

Hi Everyone-- well hoping the weather will co-operate- and be able to bike outdoors for the first time this yr- they are calling for 1 deg C ( ie approx 34F). As long as the sun is shining- should be ok!

As long as the sun is shining-it's all good.  Looks like a GREAT morning here in Boise.  The dog is giving me that 'What are you waitng for?" look.

Hope everyone has a great day.

very sorry for being MIA the last day or two guys. Getting a ton of work, along with putting my bike back together (and running into all sorts of problems with that... the downside of having a truly "customized" bike) and of course, the Knoxville 1/2 Marathon yesterday, has kept me on my toes.

Had a great race. Actually went a bit too easy the first half (my last 5k was a negative split of my first 5k haha) but all in all I was pretty happy with an end time of 1:41:45, good enough for 149 out of 2200 people, and more importantly, a PR for me!

Well the wedding has come and gone. It's crazy at how long it took to get here, and now it gone. Everything went perfect! Not sure if anyone on here has heard of the TV show " Four Weddings" but it's a show on TLC. ( Just google the show) So they were taping our wedding and we'll be on TV in August. If we win, then we get a free Honeymoon. The destination is a secret though. Hope we win!

As promised here is a Photo of my wife and I. The  first photo is of her and I at the rehearsal dinner and the Grooms Cake she got me! How awesome was that?!? But now i gotta earn the title of Ironman, which some of the triathletes at the wedding paid my entry for the full IM in October

Nautica is this weekend and should be a good time.

Awesome cake, and GREAT pics! Congrats! Sounds like you had a good time. Good luck in the contest, and let us know when it's on, so we can watch!

Congrats on the PR, Chris!

So question for all the distance runners out there... how long should a newbie expect to recover from a 30k run? My legs are still really tired from my run. I was hoping that I would be better after a full week of doing nothing, but on both my runs this week, I have felt really sluggish. A friend told me about 1 day/mi? I've never heard that before. Any thoughts? I have a half marathon in 2 months! I need to get back into training mode!

Nice pics and awesome cake! Been hearing about soo many weddings lately. Good luck on the TV show in August.

Sorry for being away for the past month or so everyone. Time has been flying by and am getting no breaks. It first started with being nominated for airman of the quarter at the group level, then won that and moved to the squadron level, and now am up for the wing level quarter award. In between that I have been TDY for the last half of the month. My shop has started a racquetball tournament which also cuts off about an hour each day.

Yesterday it hit 84 deg outside and I got my first taste of warm weather and then it quickly dropped down to 50/60 the next day. I really need to catch back up on swimming, its just hard to make the drive out to the rec pool compared to running and biking right outside of my dorm.

Congrats on the wedding, great photos, the day always passes in a blur. We have the four weddings program in england too.  that free honeymoon would be a bonus, what were the other "competitors like". What was harder the IM training or four weddings!!! Great cake

Love the pictures! So happy it all went well for you. Your bride is beautiful. You are a lucky man to have so many loved ones who support your hobby. I have not watched that show but I have seen it advertised. I'd love to watch when you are on!

Andrew - congratulations on all of your honors and awards!

I think I am about 1/2 way through the 1/2 IM training plan. I'm like the little engine that could. Every workout I tell myself I think I can, I think I can.....

This week is a run focus week. Just finished my long run and it went fine. No issues while running so now I just pray I can recover. This is always the hard part for me. I'm trying - I sat in a cold bath (my husband had just dumped out all the ice go figure!). The cold tap water was 52 degrees and that was cold enough for me! I have a massage planned for tomorrow thanks to a gift certificate from my neighbor .

Congrats on the wedding.  Woo hoo.

Haven't been posting much.  But the training is going well.  Need to get some bike focus soon.  Things have been slipping away.  Swim is coming along, and the run is going well.  Yesterday had one of the fastest (if not the fastest) and hardest runs I've done.  Short but hard.  Feeling it today.

Hoping to actually get outside on the bike on Sat.

on my slow (recovery I suppose) week. Trying to finish putting my Race bike back together before my first sprint. Legs are feeling great after the 1/2marathon though, so I'm a bit antsy to get back at it hard. My biking has been slacking, but I think it's a necessary evil if I want to continue speeding up my run and adding mileage. Doesn't look like I'm going to be breaking 300w FTP in the near future :/

Hey everyone! Sounds and looks like most of you are doing really well, and I hope it continues to stay that way.  I've got a few sprints, oly's, and one HIM planned for my first racing season.  My first tri will be this sunday and I feel like I'm peaking, which is what one wants right before a race! Took today, and taking tomorrow off so I'm well rested.  Good luck with your races everyone!

Hey all how is it going. things seem to have gone real quiet on here.

How are the race preparations going?

When are the first races for everyone or the next race

How have the races to date been?

I have my first sprint next sunday. Preparation was going ok until I was out walking the dog yesterday in the woods and turned my weak left ankle over, left me sprawled on the ground in agony with a dog jumping on me in concern. Have iced it and raised it. Managed a tentative 5km on it tonight constantly worried it was going to collapse and leave me on the floor but made it through. Time will tell. On flip side managed my best 20km time on my usual rolling route tonight on bike with a 36:48. strong head and tail wind at times

Ouch, sorry about your ankle. Give it a few days to heal up. I twisted mine back in December. You might try a compression wrap too. Great job on your ride!

Had my first sprint of the season today. It went great, weather cooperated and I didn't make any bone head mistakes so that is nice Next race for me is the HIM June 15th. Nothing but long rides and runs for a while for me!

I am still here I promise! Been stupid busy with Rev3 Knox right around the corner. David (Newbz) has been trying to murder me I think. That said, I feel like I'm at a very good fitness level (rivaling or better shape than I was in for my 140.6)

I've only done one sprint leading up, and it was a bit of a disappointment to me, but not disasterous by any means.

Ouch... that sucks with the ankle. Be careful on it, no need to put yourself out of training//racing for an extended period just to push it.  Great job on the bike though! My cycling has been very hit or miss the last few weeks. One day I'm strong, the next day I struggle to hold my target watts. Trying to get it all sorted out, but it's a bit frustrating
