Just a heads up for those that are thinking of doing this race, don't dilly dally too much longer.  There's already over 6400 registered and the cap is 7000.  I'd say another week and it'll be sold out.

Thanks for the heads up Ray. I'm registered - it'll be my 4th year.

This will be my first one.  I'm shooting for a 2:45 based on my half mary last Sept of 1:54, it should be a walk in the park. Tongue out

Won't be racing as I have a 70.3 two weeks later but I'll be cheering on friends!  Good luck all!

The first 27km are great. But when I arrive at the base of the "big hill", my 'gravitationally challenged' body can't seem to keep running. I'm also shooting for a 2:45 but it may be a strech for me.

I've heard of this hill also but I've yet to see it.  I may have to take a ride there and maybe make a training run of it at the same time.

it is a beauty....
as are the rolling hills that kick in just past the halfway mark

geez-- thinking like this right now ALMOST makes me hope that hill training DOESN'T get cancelled/postponed tonight....

(almost-- but not quite) Embarassed

I was in a while ago. Also my 4th time.  I love this race. It's just the right amount of challenge.  Last year I amped up the hill training because in year 2 even though I set a great PB the last 3k after the big hill felt like a death march. It worked really well last year so i am back at it.

Ray, my main advice is not to go too hard on the first 18k - it's perfectly flat and seems easy but the rollers in Burlington can be tough if you've paced a little to fast and then it starts to hurt and all you can do is dread the big one which seems to never come and it's just about 27k it hits ...

My point of pride is never walking up the big hill - i've had to slow wayyyyyy down and nearly barfed on it twice but i made it!

You never walked it? That is impressive!

You reminded me of a bit o' wisdon a coach once gave me: "If you puke during a race you're running too hard. If you puke after the race, you didn't run hard enough. What you should aim for is to puke just as you're crossing the finish line. It also makes for a more memorable race photo."

Thanks for the advice.  I didn't really have any hill training in my schedule, but I think I'll add some for the last 4-5 weeks before the race.  Specifically, I'll actually do the race course in those areas, and from what I understand it's in the 19-23 k area, then the big hill around 26.5k.

I'll be there assuming I'm injury free. Hoping to run 1:57 after running 1:59 in 2009 off 6 weeks of build up for 30km.

This year will be my 17th time running the Bay in a row..After last years IMC training and discovering Quad tendon tears in both knees.. My goal this year is to finish!  (Healing has been slow)
This is a fantastic race with many challenges along the route.. It won't be my fastest year but i will finish!!!

looking forward to taking this one on again!
(& i'm hoping for a repeat of last year's weather/conditions)

but i still find it mildly depressing that the trip from t.o. to hamilton = my vacation plan this winter.

(i'll need to improve on that for 2012)
